Berniece Green Brown was born Jan. 4, 1924, in Pleasant Grove, Utah. She passed away Nov. 6, 2016, in Rexburg, Idaho, at the age of 92.
Berniece was the first of six children born to LeRoy H. Green and Percia Bunnell. Her siblings include Harry, Dale, Dean, Percia (all deceased) and Norma, her "little sis."
She grew up in the Rexburg area, moving many times during her childhood until her parents bought a home on First East.
At the age of 17, she married Cleon L Brown in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on March 11, 1941. She graduated from high school in May of 1942. They had two daughters, Sharan (Jimmie Dee) Mitchell and Carol (Thomas P.) Matthews.
She had various jobs during her lifetime. She worked at MH Kings as a clerk, worked with her father as a meat cutter at O.P. Skaggs, a part-time waitress and a floral designer at Rexburg Floral. She started college in 1963-64 and in May of 1966 graduated with a provisional teacher certification that allowed her to start her career as a elementary teacher. She taught at Lyman, Wash., and Adams schools for 20 years. During her early teaching career, she attended Brigham Young University during the summers, receiving her bachelor degree in education in 1968.
Berniece had a love of nature. She loved working with flowers and enjoyed being out with her family on picnics, picking huckleberries, hiking in the woods and harvesting firewood for winter warmth. She loved her 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She was responsible for most of them receiving their first personal book.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Working in many callings in the Rexburg 3rd and 1st wards, as well as various stake positions. She had a strong testimony of the gospel that she shared through her kindness to and love for others.
She was preceded in death by parents; her husband; three brothers; one sister; her son-in-law, Jimmie; and three granddaughters. Survivors include her daughters, Sharan and Carol; a sister, Norma; two sisters-in-love, Deanna and Jayne; and a brother-in-love, Kay Baker.
A special note of thanks to the Homestead Assisted Living staff at Carriage Cove. Thank you, Hillary Gee and your staff, for loving her, tolerating her quirks and giving her a great year and a half with you.

Berniece, I'm sorry I never got to give you a proper goodbye. I wish I could have introduced you to my wife and my daughter. They'd absolutely love you! I appreciate your time and attention when we'd visit, the stories you told me, the encouragement you'd give, your lovely flower garden you showed me. You're an incredible, delightful woman, Berniece. I love you very much. God be with you until we meet again.
