Jerald C. Thorpe, 80, of Idaho Falls, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2016, in Idaho Falls.
He was born Jan. 15, 1936, to Monte Roy and Eunice Ailene (Walker) Thorpe. He was raised in the Shoshone, Idaho, area and graduated from Shoshone High School in 1953.
He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War in the Far East, Australia and in the Arctic. After his Navy service, he returned to Idaho and started his construction career with H-K Construction. He moved to Idaho Falls in 1960 and began working for Cope Well Drilling in 1962, later for Andrus Construction, and he later retired from Ovard Construction. Jerald loved bowling and worked at Bowl-Ero Lanes in Idaho Falls. He served in the Idaho Men's and the Idaho Jr. bowling associations and was active in the bowling community.
Jerald is survived by his longtime loving companion, Elizabeth Hill of Idaho Falls; his daughter, Katherine Columber-Eash, and her husband, Keith, of Wauseon, Ohio; granddaughter, Shalae Columber, and her children, Victoria Fahringer and Derrick Beckstein; and his brother, Donald Thorpe of Mountain Home, Idaho. He is also survived by Beth's children: Antonette Ciola and husband, Ron; Danielle Hill; and Dominique Patterson and her husband, Dalton, and their children, Destiny Poduska, Daron Poduska, Vanessa Simpson, Ethan Jones, Elexys Hill, Samantha Chavoya and Joslyn Garner.
Jerald was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Roy Dean Thorpe; three infant sisters; and four brothers, Clifford, Kenneth, Wayne and Lyle Thorpe.
A visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, at Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home, 825 E. 17th St., in Idaho Falls. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, and the family will greet friends from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. before the service. Interment will follow at Ammon Cemetery.

We have lost a great friend. Jerry was one of the people in the Idaho Falls bowling community that I highly respected. He was always caring and was able to bring a smile to my face. He will always be loved and missed. Our prayers are with you all.

Jerry was a skilled operator.I was the architect on the Westbank Hotel and had the opportunity to work with Jerry on the Westbank and many other projects when he was with Hunter-Saucerman Construction.

I knew Jerry many years ago when we were on the crew that built the Westbank Tower. Jerry was the crane operator, no doubt the best in the business. He was a great guy and sure to be missed by many. Thoughts and prayers to family and friends.

Sorry to hear of Jerry's death. I remember him well from the "old" days in Shoshone ID. He and my husband worked together for Ovard Construction Co and we both have fond memories of Jerry. Our sympathy to his family.

Jerry was a friend to all. Beth I am sorry for your loss. The bowling community and all of the friends he made throughout his reign at Bowlero will miss him very much. Jerry was a good man, I was married to him for 7 years. He helped so much with my kids, so patient! He introduced me to the bowling world of Idaho Falls. We had some fun times.
