Lavon Loynd, 81, died Friday, May 4, 2018, in Preston, after a prolonged illness.
Lavon was born Feb. 20, 1937, in Rigby, where he was raised by his parents, Thomas Edgar Loynd and Clora Lurline Staggs. Lavon held jobs from an early age, served in the military, earned a bachelor's degree in biology from Utah State University and worked as a game warden for the Idaho Department of Fish and Game.
He married Shirlene Holt in 1958. They had three children and were later divorced. He married Phyllis Colleen Jensen in 1969. They had one daughter and were later divorced.
Lavon obtained a law degree from the University of Idaho, served as assistant attorney general for the state of Idaho, taught as a nationwide lecturer and professor at McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento and was the elected prosecutor for Lincoln and Custer counties. He married Jamie Crowther in 2007, and they spent many happy years together in Whitney.
Lavon was known for his musical talents and love of the outdoors, his brilliance and keen sense of humor, his many hobbies and boundless energy until health problems slowed him down in recent years.
Lavon was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Jamie Loynd; by his brother, Gail E. (Kathleen) Loynd, of Twin Falls; and by his four children: Ricky Dee Loynd, of Redmond, Washington; Cindy Loynd, of Blaine, Washington; Timothy John (Dee) Loynd, of Bellingham, Washington; and Laura Dee (Jeremy) Wiley, of Custer County. He is also survived by six stepchildren: Ron (Jennifer) Ward, Shelly (Wes) Stucki, Julie (Rich) Southworth, Jennifer (Mike) Baker, Brian Ward and Jaren (Emily) Ward, 20 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 12, at 1 p.m. in Eckersell Memorial Chapel. The family will visit with friends one hour prior to services. Burial will be at Rigby Pioneer Cemetery.
