Michael Storms Obituary

Michael Scott Storms, 54, of Idaho Falls, passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2015.

Michael was a beloved member of the Idaho Falls community, especially by the staff and patrons of his former restaurant, the Brownstone Restaurant and Brewhouse.

Michael was born Sept. 5, 1960, in Merced, Calif., to Rulon Ray Storms and Judy Rae Atkinson Storms. He was an accomplished athlete at Idaho Falls High School, where he graduated in 1979. He continued his education at Idaho State University, where he received his master's degree in political science. He was later a professor at Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pa., before returning to Idaho Falls.

Michael loved literature, particularly historical nonfiction, and was actively researching and writing about the rich cultural history of the American Southwest. He frequently traveled to California, Nevada, New Mexico and Arizona to pursue his research and study with archaeological experts.

He loved to travel, climb mountains, and explore the outdoors – from Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa to the mountain ranges of Hawaii. Michael most recently explored the countless trails of the Grand Canyon with Jeffrey Burgraf, whom he counted as a close friend and loved as a son.

Michael will be missed dearly. He was an authentic, passionate individual with a unique and inspiring personality. He examined situations thoroughly and helped expand and challenge the minds of everyone around him.

Michael is survived by his son, Brandon Michael Storms; his loving and dedicated parents, Rulon and Judy Storms of Idaho Falls; his brother, Todd Storms; sister-in-law, Iris Storms; his niece, Sidney; and his nephews, Sean, Ben, Adam, and Alex, who also live in Idaho Falls.

The family will be holding a memorial in Michael's honor from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, at the home of his brother, Todd, located at 2767 W. Honeysuckle Lane in Idaho Falls. His family invites all who knew him to attend.

Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.woodfuneralhome.com.

I am very sorry for your loss! I thought he was the best quarterback ever when I was a sophomore. Very nice guy!

I played high school football with Mike. He was a good guy, and I'm surprised to see that he has died. I last saw him in 89, when I passed through Idaho before Operation Just Cause. Mike was an outstanding athlete, and ran the wishbone offense proficiently. I never knew he was a Native Californian, like myself. RIP Native Brother, and I will always remember you. Condolences to his family.

I will always remember and cherish my childhood growing up on 10th street with Mike. Our families shared a love of animals, as kids we played night games every summer, climbed trees, rode bikes all over the place, had water fights ending in trouble for some of us, door bell ditching, games and laughter in our tents at night, and iceskating rinks inn our back yards. Mike and i were in the same class at Lindon Park elementary till 5th grd. Sorry to hear of your passing so young Mike. I will always cherish the memories. My love and prayers for your families comfort at this time. Robin Grover Kuni
