Phyllis V. Franklin, 92, of Idaho Falls, passed away Monday, Sept. 16, 2014, at MorningStar of Idaho Falls.
Phyllis was born April 13, 1922, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Abraham Subotnik and Anna Goldstein Subotnik. She grew up in Cedar Rapids and graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in sociology.
After many years as a social worker, she went on to attain her master's degree in English from the University of California. She then became an English teacher, a career from which she finally retired.
On Sept. 3, 1950, she married Jay M. Franklin in Cedar Rapids. To this marriage, they had two sons, Randall E. Franklin and Timothy A. Franklin.
Phyllis was an avid bridge player. She enjoyed reading and playing Scrabble. Mostly, she enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family.
Phyllis is survived by her sons, Randy (Jeanette) Franklin of Phoenix and Tim Franklin (Randy Vest) of Idaho Falls; nephew, David (Carrie) Saling; and great-nephew, Harrison Saling. She is also survived by her special friends, Delbert and Lynn Vest Stiffler.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Jay, both her parents and her three sisters.
There will be no funeral services at Phyllis's request. Her ashes will be spread privately by her family. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home, 825 E. 17th St. in Idaho Falls.

Dear Tim and Randy, I was so saddened to here of your Mom's passing. She was a treasure. I adored her and feel very lucky to have know here while she was here at Morning Star. She was my favorite scrabble partner! My deepest condolences. God Bless.
