Ronald Smout Obituary

Ronald Loy "Ron" Smout, formerly of Idaho Falls, passed away Monday, April, 13, 2015, in Decatur, Texas, at Wise Regional Medical Center due to a lingering illness.

Ronald was born Jan. 9, 1944, in Idaho Falls to Loy James Smout and Velma LaRae Freeman Smout. Ron was the second of six children. Ron grew up on the family farm on Antelope Flats surrounded by siblings and many cousins to play with. It was Ron's way to keep mischief in the mix. He attended school in Ririe.

In August of 1961, he married Carol Ann John and to this union was born LaRae, Loy, Denna and Liza. They were later divorced.

Ron made his career as a long haul truck driver and enjoyed traveling to many parts of the country. He worked at this profession many years until his health prevented him to continue.

In December of 1974, Ron married Joy Galbraith. They were later divorced.

In March of 1980, Ron married Kathy Jo Maupin and this union was a packaged deal with two children, Trish and Scott. Ron, Kathy, Trish and Scott moved to Texas to make their life. Ron made Texas his home for the last 30 plus years. Ron and Kathy later divorced, but Trish and Scott remained close to Ron and considered him their father.

Ron was preceded in death by his father and mother; his brother, Keith Smout; and brother-in-law, Robert Kite.

He is survived by his children, Vina LaRae (Bob) Palmer of Ashton, Loy Morgan Smout of Oklahoma, Denna Annette Smout of Reno, Nev., and Liza Jo (Doug) Ball of Idaho Falls; stepchildren, Tricia Rae Coomer and Scott Daniel Smout, both of Chico, Texas; brothers, Bruce Smout of Moreno, Calif., and Wade Smout of Idaho Falls; sisters, Linda Kite of Rigby and Leslie (Lynn) Rockwood of Iona; sister-in-law, Charlene Smout of Rigby; 12 grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren with one on the way.

Ron will be truly missed by family and friends.

Ron was cremated and a family gathering will be held Saturday, May 16, 2015, in Chico, Texas, to spread his ashes over his property, as per his request.
