Sue Norr Obituary

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Suzanne Rae "Sue" Norr, our loving and devoted mother and friend to all whose lives she touched, on January 4, 2024.

She left us while sleeping peacefully at her residence in Lincoln Court Retirement Community, Idaho Falls, Idaho. She passed in her 86th year after a long battle with dementia. She was born June 8, 1937, in Glendale, California, the oldest of two children of Thomas and Adeline Herndon. The Herndons lived in Cucamonga, California. After graduating from Chaffey Union High School in 1955, she went on to graduate from Chaffey College.

Sue married the love of her life, Herbert E. Norr, on November 15, 1958, and they made their home in National City, California, while Herb was stationed there with the Navy. Military life was filled with adventure and took them all over the world. Herb and Sue lived in Bremerton, Washington; La Jolla, University City, Huntington Beach, and Mira Mesa, California; Great Lakes, Illinois; Sasebo, Japan; and they finally called Idaho Falls, home, when Herb retired from the U.S. Navy in 1978.

After settling in Idaho Falls, Sue became a reading teacher and taught at both Emerson and Linden Park Elementary schools until her retirement. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she served as an Elder and on the Mission Committee. In this capacity she led a team with Habitat for Humanity to New Orleans helping build homes post Hurricane Katrina, helped with the church Christmas Basket program, and delivered bulletins and visited with shut-ins weekly. She also volunteered with the Museum of Idaho, Snake River Animal Shelter, Idaho Falls Rescue Mission where she routinely cooked meals, Military Officer Association of America (MOAA), Girl Scouts, and helped the Salvation Army with the local Community Thanksgiving Dinner.

Sue was an incredible mother who lived a rich and full life dedicated to her family, friends, community, and church. She loved her garden full of beautiful flowers and raspberries, and her dog running around the yard. Her legacy of love, dedication, and volunteerism will undoubtedly live on through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Sue always felt there is nothing better in this life than to be a wife, mother, and grandmother.

Sue is survived by her two children, daughter, Kristine Noel of Pupukea, HI, and son, Scott Norr (Tammy) of Idaho Falls; four grandchildren, Mandy Cook of Port Orchard, WA, Brittany Norr of Virginia Beach, VA, Eric Noel of Billings, MT, and Megan Norr of Danbury, NH; and three great-grandchildren, Ashley, Alyssa, and Logan.

Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Herb, both parents, and her brother Tom.

The family would like to thank the Memory Care staff at Lincoln Court Retirement Community and BRIO Hospice, and all those who helped in so many ways. Your caring, thoughtful, respectful, and loving care of mom was genuinely heartfelt and so appreciated.

"And when they have to go, just know; their smile is in the sun, their hug is in the moon, they will always watch over you." - Amanda Blair

A memorial service will be held at a later date in the spring.
