David Pountain Obituary

David A. Pountain

September 30, 1977 - September 30, 2024

WAPPINGERS FALLS - The world grew a little dimmer on September 30, 2024, as David A. Pountain passed away peacefully, surrounded by love, on his 47th birthday at the Hudson Valley Hospice House. But those who knew Dave understand that his spirit is not gone; it lives on in the laughter, memories, and love he shared with everyone who crossed his path.

Dave was born on September 30, 1977, in Honolulu, HI, the son of Catherine and Philip R. Pountain, and was raised in South Glens Falls, NY, before heading to SUNY Geneseo.

After earning a BA in Computer Science, Dave embarked on a successful career in software engineering and cloud solutions architecture, most recently employed for Swiss Re in Armonk for the last 12 years.

In the early 2000s, Dave's life took a beautiful turn when he met Laurene, affectionately known as "Reen." Their love story was instant and on a stunning fall day in October 2004, they married, surrounded by their closest friends and family. Together, they welcomed their son, Aidan, forming an inseparable trio. Dave, Reen, and Aidan shared a love for the outdoors, spending countless days running, hiking, camping, rowing, and fishing together.

Those lucky enough to know Dave will never forget his mischievous smile, love of puns, dad jokes, hilarious Christmas cards, and his talent for turning any conversation into a spirited, yet friendly debate. His quick wit and easy laughter brightened every room. Dave was a devoted husband and father, deeply in love with Reen and Aidan.

Whether he was aware of it or not, Dave left an unforgettable mark on all those he met. He had a unique ability to make people feel heard, to find humor in the everyday, and to radiate calmness in times of uncertainty. His impact on the lives around him will be felt long after his passing, as the memories and stories of his life continue to be shared.

Dave is survived by his beloved wife, Laurene (Cook) Pountain of 20 years and their son, Aidan. He is also survived by his mother, Catherine (Donohue) Tracy and her husband Mark of South Glens Falls; his sister, Pamela Bordas - her husband Chuck and son Calvin of Ballston Spa; his twin sister, Sandra Lemery - her husband Brian, son Brandon and daughter Mia of Queensbury; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, James and Lorna Cook; and his brother-in-law, James Cook IV; and many dear friends. Dave was predeceased by his father, Philip R. Pountain.

A Celebration of Dave's Life was held on Poughkeepsie, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Dave's memory to Sparrow's Nest, an organization that provided tremendous community and support during the past year. Contributions can be sent to Sparrow's Nest, 10 Town Center Blvd, Hopewell Junction, NY 12533 or made online at https://sparrowsnestcharity.org/.

As we celebrate Dave's life, let us remember his laughter, his love, and the joy he brought to everyone. His spirit lives on in every shared joke, every fond memory, and every heart he touched.

Arrangements are under the direction of the McHoul Funeral Home. Please visit and add your stories and memories of Dave at his Book of Memories at www.mchoulfuneralhome.com.
