Dylan Balcom Obituary

Dylan Balcom

November 15, 1998 - December 22, 2024

GLENS FALLS, NY - It is with great sadness that we announce Dylan Balcom, 26, of Glens Falls, died unexpectedly at home December 22, 2024.

He was born November 15, 1998, in Saratoga Springs, the son of Timothy Balcom and Sonja (Bates) Gardner. He attended Glens Falls City schools and graduated from Glens Falls High School in 2017, where he was a member of the football, basketball, and lacrosse teams. Dylan was a selfless, fearless teammate, loyal friend, and supportive brother who you could always count on to have your back.

After high school, Dylan explored a few different paths including attending SUNY Oneonta, exploring San Diego, and later moving to South Dakota with his best friend Austin. Dylan realized he loved and missed his family fiercely and returned to Glens Falls in 2021. Dylan had a strong desire to spend more time with family; he wanted to be home for family dinners and his younger brothers sporting events. He was currently enrolled at SUNY Adirondack, finding greater academic success than ever, and was working towards his goal of becoming an Educator and Coach.

Dylan had a special bond with each of his parents. He loved his hikes with his mom and their dogs, and especially loved spending summers on Sunset Lake in Vermont with the family. He enjoyed singing, dancing, and playing music with his Dad and friends. Dylan could count on watching sports every weekend with either his Mom or Dad, enjoying the snacks, beverages, debates, and laughter. Dylan was blessed with four loving parents and had a special bond with his stepparents Jason and Leslie.

Dylan is predeceased by his grandfather, Robert Balcom (2001;) grandmother, Jeni Roberts (2023;) and his first dog, Bailey (2023.)

Dylan is survived by a large, loving blended and extended family including his mother, Sonja Gardner; father, Timothy Balcom; stepfather, Jason Gardner; stepmother, Leslie Balcom; brother, Noah Balcom; stepsister, Hilary Burns; stepbrothers: Jake Burns, and Ralph Maldonado; grandmother, Donna Balcom; grandfather, John Roberts; stepgrandparents: Jay and Joyce Gardner; Steven and Linda Areman; aunts and uncles: Trisha Balcom (Scott Patterson,) Alyce Bates, Elizabeth Roberts, and Tyler Bates (Gabby Valenti;) godparents: David and Sherrie Moses; many cousins, great-aunts, great-uncles, friends, and his dogs: Ciro and Wilson.

Dylan will be remembered for his beautiful smile, quick wit, kind heart, and love for his family and friends.

Calling hours will be Friday January 3, 2025, from 2:00-4:00 p.m., with a brief service at 4:00 p.m., at Regan Denny Stafford Funeral Home, 53 Quaker Road, Queensbury. The family would like to invite friends and family to join them after the service to share stories, laughs, and to celebrate the life Dylan lived. Celebration of Life will be held at the Bull Pen Tavern in Glens Falls at 5:30 p.m., refreshments will be provided.

Dylan aspired to return to Glens Falls High School as a teacher and a coach citing GF Nation as a community he believed in and wanted to make a difference in. To keep his spirit alive at GF Nation, Dylan's family has set up a scholarship for Glens Falls Student Athletes that they hope to support for years to come.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donating to the Dylan Balcom Memorial Fund, care of Glens Falls National Bank (Arrowbank,) Donations can be mailed or dropped off at any Glens Falls National bank locations; envelopes will also be available during calling hours.

He was a classmate of mine at ADK, I'm sincerely sad to hear that he has passed. He was a very fun loving and chill guy. I know his family is ripped apart by this tragedy but I hope they just remember that his life while cutshort was still nonetheless full.

Tim and Leslie, I am shocked and saddened to read of Dylan´s passing. I remember So many days he would be out in your driveway playing basketball with his Dad or brothers. Much sympathy to you and the family on such a sad loss of a brilliant man he was becoming. With caring thought and strength to get through this difficult time. Your old neighbor. Jill Weidman

Dylan played sports and was a good friend of my son Dawson. He was a frequent visitor at my house during school years. What a great kid. So well mannered and sweet. That means he was raised in a beautiful loving family. Thank you for blessing the world with his presence the short time we had him. He will be loved and missed always.
