Ed truly was one in a million.
Calm, caring, and compassionate.
He was principal of the high-school years of 2 of my children at Spa Catholic, but he never held that against me.
He was a wonderful role model, an astute listener, and a wise sage.
I had the honor of serving on the school board with him, and saw how much he truly cared for the school and its mission, which as his life. He was concerned for every student, every faculty member, and every employee.
He was selfless and would do whatever he could to make a difference.
He'd give you the shirt off his back.
At his retirement party I was honored to say a few words, and literally gave him the shirt off my back!
The world needs more Ed Hammonds, and I hope the seeds he has sown over his career will mature and multiply for future generations.
Rest in Christ's peace, Ed.

Mr. Hammond was an unbelievably kind man who always took extra time to take care of his students. While his time as my principal was short (1 year) he helped me through a difficult time. I will always be grateful for his grace and compassion, there aren't many people of his caliber.

I can honestly say no one spent more time in the principals office during Mr Hammond’s tenure than Coach Lambert. Whatever the circumstance was for being announced “Coach Lambert report to Mr Hammond’s office “a kick in the pant's , a dat a boy, or just a heartfelt talk I always left the office knowing this man’s got my back. Ed was at all the basketball and baseball games cheering the teams on. I remember Ed making the decision to go to the Baseball State Championship game after recent heart surgery over graduation. It meant the world to those 7 seniors on the team that the “Principal” came to support them on graduation day. Ed was a champion of the underdog kid. The kid who may not be perfect. Ed saw the goodness in everybody and we often talked about those kids he got through school. Whenever I would ask Ed hey I got a great idea he would come back with how much is this going to cost Coach ? He never said no Tremendous man, great leader and great friend. Christmas card every year and any accomplishment achieved you could count on Ed for a phone call congratulating me. June 24th Ed Hammond text “Coach I’m so happy for you and the team. “Remember every moment and take it all in” That’s Ed Hammond in a nutshell. Rest in Peace my friend. Thank you for hiring me as a teacher and your support through the years. You will be missed by many❤Coach

My heartfelt condolences to Ed's family, He was a caring, kind, and thoughtful leader and friend, I admired his ability to listen and contribute
positive ideas to various situations. He was always able to give credit to those deserving and worked hard to expand school programs and curriculum
to provide a better world for our students. Always a team player and always
a great host. God bless and cherish his memory.

Ed came into our lives in November of 1994. Our daughter was making the transition from public school to SCC. As a 14 year old it was a troubling time in the public school for her and could have been a very difficult change going to SCC. Ed made it seamless for her and helped her meet her soul sister and lifelong friend. At the same time our two youngest sons transferred to Saint Clements Grammar School and were welcomed with open arms, a statement to Catholic school educators. They, too, eventually met “Mr. Hammond”. And Ed “had their number” almost immediately. They were characters to say the least. And even when they didn’t have their older sister keeping them on track, Ed was always there with his firm but caring discipline. Thank you, Ed, for all your support and caring for our family and as a friend, for us. We are sure you are still looking down and keeping an eye on them!

Mr. Hammond, as all his St Pats students knew him, was a great teacher and personal friend to me and my family. Throughout my life he supported me and my family. He was a good soul. I last saw him at my father's funeral in Catskill a few years. He came from Saratoga to pay his respects. I greatly appreciated it, and I'm sure my father who played Pinocle and bowled with him, wished he could play one more hand of cards.

Deepest sympathy to family and friends. I attended St. Patrick's in Catskill, NY (grades 7-12) where Mr. Hammond was my history teacher and guidance counselor. He was stern and yet caring and earned the respect of every student who attended. He was a great teacher, guidance counselor, and junior high basketball coach who helped shape the lives of so many people. Forever grateful.

Mr. Hammond was my guidance counselor at St. Pat’s in Catskill. He was always a dedicated educator and helped many students prepare for life beyond St. Pat’s. He encouraged me to go to his alma mater, Marist College, along with several other classmates. I appreciated his wry sense of humor and his dedication to the field of education. Condolences to his family and friends. A good man who touched countless lives.

Mr. Hammond was a very large part of my life growing up. I was a student at St. Patrick's when he began his teaching career. When I would struggle with a written test he would take me to Dairy Queen and give me the test verbally because he had faith that I knew the material - after all he had taught it to me.
He was my guidance and history teacher in high school and while he could be firm to keep this high school student in line he was also a friend. He never missed any sporting event and was always encouraging.
We stayed in touch once I graduated and he was in my wedding party since I considered him one my best friends. He was always the first Christmas card we received each year and he will be missed.
Thank you Mr. Hammond for being a part of my life.

Mr. Hammond meant everything to me. He was my Junior High, JV Basketball and Assistant Varsity Basketball Coach, Teacher, Guidance Counselor, Principal, but best of all, my Godfather. Growing up in a single parent home without a Dad he was always there for me and my family and was an excellent role model along the way. When my Grades were only "decent" in HS, he found an EOP program available to me that helped me get into SUNY Cortland to pursue a Physical Education Teaching Degree. I'm now beginning my 33rd year as a PE Teacher and I owe my entire Career to him. Over the past 40+ years we regularly kept in touch with each other and became closer then ever. He will be sorely missed by our family but we will ALWAYS hold him close to our hearts and forever grateful for the memories we shared along the way.

Ed was our dear friend for 36 years. He was our kids principal at Saratoga Central Catholic. All three of our kids went there and loved him as their principal. We were very dear friends with him throughout all of this time. Ed was a shining example of putting faith into action as his Catholic background was exhibited in his principal ship .Upon his retirement, Ed came to our house many times and we enjoyed a beautiful friendship together. Earth has certainly lost a beautiful soul, but Heaven has truly gained one. Thank you, Ed, for being such a shining example for this family. We shall miss you so very much, but we look forward to being reunited again in Heaven. Until we meet again, sweet friend, me the road rise to meet you , and may you rest safely in the arms of our Loving Father. We love you so

I had the pleasure to meet Ed and befriend him in the K of C golf league. I found he was a kind, friendly man with a dry sense of humor that made you smile and chuckle. Ed was an honest golfer who played strictly by the rules but also didn't count YOUR strokes. Several times we enjoyed a meal after a round and found the conversation interesting and varied. Rest in peace Ed, you will be remembered by the many people you influenced.

Ed was my principal my junior and senior years (1988-1989) at SCC. Was always firm, but fair, as well as quick witted. Even after I graduated and went in the military, he was a regular visitor at our family parties and gatherings when I returned from deployments or on leave.
RIP Edyou will be missed.
