Grace Campbell Obituary

Grace Elizabeth Campbell

March 25, 1929 - Dec. 2, 2023

CAMBRIDGE – Grace Elizabeth Campbell, 94, of Cambridge, passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, December 2, 2023.

A beloved member of the Cambridge community, Grace was surrounded by her loved ones, family and friends.

She was born on March 25, 1929, the daughter of George and Lula (Moffitt) Campbell. She was the sixth generation living on the Campbell homestead. Her older brother, George (Jake) Campbell predeceased her in June 1981. As a young girl, Grace learned to play the piano and filled her time playing beautiful music of all kinds, including classical, showtunes, hymns and popular music of the day. Her younger sisters loved to accompany her with singing in the parlor.

Grace graduated from Cambridge High School and began work at Asgrow Seed Company in Cambridge. She was eventually transferred to the company's location in Bakersfield, CA, where she lived and worked for two years. Both her parents and sisters took a very special and memorable road trip across the country to bring Grace back to her hometown after her time in California.

Upon her return home, Grace moved to Albany, where she landed a job as Secretary to the President of Albany Frosted Foods, which was later purchased by Sysco Foods. She remained a loyal and irreplaceable employee at Sysco for 40 years until she retired.

After her career, Grace moved back to her family's homestead and became an active member of the Cambridge community, where she made many friends and cared for her elderly mother until she passed away in 1998.

There was hardly anyone in Cambridge who did not know Grace Campbell. She was a member of both the Cambridge and Washington County Historical Societies. She had a special interest in genealogy and spent her free time learning about her own family history.

She especially enjoyed traveling and planned exciting trips through Europe with her closest friends. Grace was also well known for her love of gardening. You could always find her busy in the yard, keeping her expansive flower and vegetable gardens looking beautiful. Grace had a generous spirit and loved to share the bounty of her garden with her family and friends. Faith in God was the cornerstone of Grace's life and she was a proud member of the Coila Church.

Above all, Grace touched the lives of everyone she knew. She was a steady rock that you could always count on. Her caring personality and kind spirit will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all who knew her. Isaiah 40:31, "But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."

Grace is survived by her sisters: Dorothy MaLossi and Lina (Ed) Harrington; her nieces: Lisa (Sean) Moran, Cindy Harrington and Carolyn (Troy) Ponzi; her nephew, Matthew (Sue) MaLossi; and many great-nieces and nephews.

A calling hour will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 9, 2023 at the Coila Church, 93 State Route 372, Cambridge. A service will begin at 11:00 a.m. and interment will follow the service at Woodlands Cemetery in Cambridge. A reception will be in the fellowship hall of the church following the services.
