Joyce Mae Mjaatvedt

TICONDEROGA Joyce Mae Mjaatvedt, 78, of Amherst Avenue, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Center of Burlington, Vt. Born in Corinth, N.Y., on Feb. 18, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Anna (Houser) Holland. Mrs. Mjaatvedt was a graduate of Corinth High School and Mildred Elley Business School of Albany. She has been a resident of Ticonderoga since 1971, moving there from Corinth. Before her retirement, she was employed as a teacher's aide at Ticonderoga Elementary School and a bookkeeper and secretary at Christopher Chevrolet and Ti Oil Co., both of Ticonderoga. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Ticonderoga, was a volunteer at St. Mary's School of Ticonderoga for many years and was a member of St. Mary's School Education Council. She was a member of the Essex County Board of Elections, and the Red Hat Society Ladies Between the Lakes. Mrs. Mjaatvedt enjoyed puzzles, knitting, crocheting and, most of all, spending time with her family. She was predeceased by her infant son, Ned Mjaatvedt in 1954. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Helen Bilodeau and Lillian Brady; and by two brothers, George Holland and Robert Holland. Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Norman A. Mjaatvedt Sr.; her six children: Norman A. Mjaatvedt Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Corinth, Anne Charboneau and her husband, Robert, of Ticonderoga, Mary Lou Pelerin and her husband, Rick, of Ticonderoga, Susan Weber of Ticonderoga, Eric Mjaatvedt and his wife, Coleen, of Milton, Vt., and Ted J. Mjaatvedt and his wife, Misty, of Sterling Heights, Mich.; and one brother, John Holland of Corinth; her 14 grandchildren: Jeffrey Mjaatvedt, Jodi Lynn Mjaatvedt, Stacey Mjaatvedt, Robert Charboneau, Nathan Charboneau, Kristina Wells, Adrienne Charboneau, Michael Tennian, Sarah Tennian-Wardell, Jessica Pelerin, Christopher Pelerin, Collin Weber, Ryan Mjaatvedt and Kirstin Mjaatvedt; four great-grandchildren: Jordan Mjaatvedt, Jasmine Mjaatvedt, Julie Mjaatvedt and Peyton Mjaatvedt; and she was anxiously awaiting the arrival of her fifth great-grandchild in January. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call Friday, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Ticonderoga. The Rev. William G. Muench, pastor, will officiate. The Rite of Committal will take place on Monday at 11 a.m. at the family plot of St. Mary's Cemetery of Corinth.
