Louis Hildebrandt Obituary

Louis Frederick Hildebrandt

GLENS FALLS - Louis Frederick Hildebrandt (aka Sam, Lou, Butch), passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at Glens Falls Hospital after a brief illness. His loving wife, Susan and his daughter Tracey were at his side.

Louis was born in Amsterdam to Louis F., Sr. and Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Hildebrandt.

Throughout his adult life, he held many (30+) jobs, often more than one at a time. He was most proud of being a teacher - in the elementary school at Fonda-Fultonville Central School District where he taught third grade science, at Montgomery County Community College where he taught EMS skills to adult learners and as a regional trainer for Staples, teaching selling skills. Louis graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh, where he was known as Sam. He met his future wife Susan there and they were (finally) married on July 1, 1995.

Louis and his father established an organization known as The Friends of Sanford Stud Farm, due to his father's career as a jockey for that thoroughbred farm. The group was formed to stabilize the three remaining barns and to promote the importance of the farm to the development of Amsterdam and the Mohawk Valley. The group continues its important work to this day.

In addition to his parents and grandparents, Louis was predeceased by two beloved brothers-in-law, John and Danny, and his much-loved grandson, Gabe.

Louis is survived by his wife Susan; his children, Todd and Tracey; his sisters, Judy Pond and Mary Pat Agresta; his grandchildren, Devin, Matthew and Reilly and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call from 2 – 4 pm on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at the Rose & Hughes Funeral Home, 200 Church Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010.

A Celebration of Life will be held privately for family and friends, where Louis will be remembered for his humor and quick wit.
