Mark Ray Obituary

Mark Ray

July 30, 1971 - November 12, 2025

Mark Ray, 54, passed away unexpectedly after an assault Wednesday, November 12, 2025. Mark fought for two months before succumbing to his injuries.

Born July 30, 1971 in Granville, N.Y. he was the son of Richard L. and Mary (Smith) Ray.

Mark attended Fort Ann Central School.

Starting at the age of 16, Mark worked in slate quarries. Most recently Mark worked with Newmont Slate Quarry for the last 20 years. Mark had a hard shell but a heart of gold and would have given the shirt off his back.

Mark enjoyed fishing, playing horseshoes with his friends, and going up to a family camp in the Adirondacks.

In 2004, Mark married Heidi Matteson in Fair Haven, Vt.

In addition to his parents, Mark was predeceased by his oldest sister, Terry Ray Dixon who passed just a month prior to Mark.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Heidi Matteson Ray; step daughter, Raven Matteson; sisters, Tracy Lechleiter, and Linda Duffy; brothers, Curtis Ray, and Keith Ray; also many nieces; nephews, and cousins.

A graveside ceremony will take place Friday, January 23, 2025 at Pine View Cemetery, 21 Quaker Road, Queensbury, NY 12804.

The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to the nurses and doctors on D3 ICU Medical Floor at Albany Medical Center, the Vermont State Police, and everyone in the Victims Service Unit, especially Christine. In loving memory of Terry Ray, Marks sister contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.

Condolences may be sent directly to Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804, or through www.bakerfuneralhome.com.
