Marlene Eddy Obituary

CAMBRIDGE -- Marlene Mae Eddy, 63, of Avenue B, died unexpectedly at her home on Friday, April 28, 2006.  She was the beloved wife of Nelson L. Eddy.

Born April 8, 1943, in Hoosick Falls, she was the daughter of Beatrice Turner Straub of Cambridge, and the late Adam Straub.

Marlene graduated from Hoosick Falls High School, class of 1961, and married Nelson on Nov. 23, 1961.  They lived in Hoosick Falls until moving to Cambridge in 1977.

Marlene was a school crossing guard at Cambridge Central School for many years.  Several years ago she completed courses at Adirondack Community College and Hudson Valley Community College and received her certificate as a teaching assistant. She received tenure at Cambridge Central School but was forced into retirement last fall due to poor health.

She was a devoted, very active member of the Coila Church.  Every year, she was in charge of the football breakfast held at the church.

She enjoyed organizing events, a task she did very well.

Auctions and flea markets were a passion of hers.  Orange was her favorite color and she acquired many interesting items in that color.

Marlene and Nelson's son, Adam, died in an automobile accident in 1996, and her nephew, Edward Straub, was a victim of 9-11, dying in the second tower of the World Trade Center.

Along with her husband and mother, she is survived by a daughter, Laura Messina of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a brother, Edward Straub of Sebring, Fla.; her mother-in-law, Alretta Eddy; three brothers-in-law, James, Gerald and Richard Eddy and two nephews.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Monday, May 1, 2006, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Ackley & Ross Funeral Home, 73 West Main St., Cambridge.

Rev. George Orleman will conduct the funeral service at the Coila Church, N.Y. State Route 372, at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2006.

Burial will follow at Woodlands Cemetery, Cambridge.

Those wishing to honor Marlene's memory with contributions are asked to give to the Youth for Christ North Country, P. O. Box 338, Cambridge, NY 12816.  This was an organization very dear to Marlene.

Marlene was a beautiful, Christian woman who never let the frailties of her body get in the way of her spirit or her life.  She will be greatly missed by her family and many, many friends.

I am one of the cleaners at the school, now serving in Iraq. The school will not be the same without Marlene. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends.
