Paul D. Burroughs
November 28, 1937 - May 8, 2025
TICONDEROGA - Paul D. Burroughs of Queensbury, N.Y. and Venice, Fla., formerly of Ticonderoga, N.Y., passed away on May 8, 2025, at Glens Falls Hospital after a short illness. Born on November 28, 1937, in Ticonderoga, he was the son of George and Margaret (Donihee) Burroughs. Paul was raised in Ticonderoga, attended Ticonderoga High School and was a member of the class of 1955. He kept up with many of his classmates through attending lunches and dinners and was a consistent supporter of the Ticonderoga Alumni Association.
After graduation from Ticonderoga, he attended SUNY Oswego to study industrial arts as it was known at the time. At Oswego, he was a member of Beta Tau Epsilon fraternity, graduating with a B.S. in the class of 1959. He would go on to receive his Master's Degree from Hofstra University in 1964.
It was at Oswego that he met Mary Lloyd Burns who became his wife, marrying on August 19, 1961. They moved to Long Island where Paul taught industrial arts, which gradually evolved into technology. He was a teacher and administrator for 34 years, retiring from Half Hollow Hills School District in 1993.
Paul and Mary Lloyd raised three daughters on Long Island, and spent their summers traveling the country with the family, at first in a pop-up tent trailer, and later an RV. In 1972, he brought his family back to Ticonderoga, building a camp to spend summers on Eagle Lake, and, with the help of family, he made it a showcase of flowers. He enjoyed entertaining his many friends and family and liked nothing more than being surrounded by those he loved. Upon his retirement, he built a year-round residence on Eagle Lake and he and Mary Lloyd split their time between Ticonderoga and Bird Bay Village in Venice, Fla., where they owned a winter residence.
Paul is survived by Mary Lloyd, his wife of 63 years; daughters, Katherine Burroughs (Lori), Carolyn Wickes (Roger) and Elizabeth Doty (Paul); as well as grandchildren, Caitlin Wickes, Colleen Wickes, Paul Doty, Rebecca Doty, Joseph Doty, Kelsey Burroughs, and Aidia Melcher.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wilcox and Regan Funeral Home of Ticonderoga. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ticonderoga on Friday May 16, 2025, at 11 a.m. The Rite of Committal will follow at the family plot of the Valley View Cemetery of Ticonderoga. A Reception for family and friends will follow the Services.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in Paul's memory to the Ticonderoga Alumni Association P.O. Box 644, Ticonderoga, N.Y. 12883, or the SUNY Oswego Alumni Association 215 Sheldon Hall, Oswego, N.Y. 13126.
