Robert Carruthers Obituary

Robert L. Carruthers

December 2, 1930 - July 25, 2024

QUEENSBURY - Robert L. Carruthers, 93, of Queensbury, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 25, 2024.

Born in Queens, New York on December 2, 1930, he was the son of the late Sydney D. and Myrle (Lucas) Carruthers.

Robert proudly served his country in the US Air Force before being honorably discharged.

In 1946, his parents decided to move their family to Argyle, New York. It was here that his father started the family business, S.D. Carruthers & Sons, Inc. Robert remained partners with his brothers in the contracting firm after the death of their father.

Robert was married to Dolores Nokes on June 12, 1954 and enjoyed 60 years of loving marriage.

In addition to working hard most of his life, he did take time to camp in the Adirondacks, sail on Lake George, ski at Gore Mountain and golf at Glens Falls Country Club and out West with his family. He very much enjoyed getting together with his mother, brothers, sister and extended family, and all the children from such a large family.

In addition to his parents, Robert was predeceased by his son, Stephan Carruthers; his brothers, Henry Carruthers, Warren Carruthers and George Carruthers; his sister's in-law, Stephanie Carruthers, Betty Carruthers, and Liz Carruthers; his brother in-law, Dewey Powell and son in-law, Hank Kimmey.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores; daughter, Diane Kimmey; son, Thomas and his wife, Linda; daughter in-law, Nancy; three grandchildren, Michael Brown and his wife, Jennifer, Lucia Carruthers and her husband, Chris Lang and Jessica Carruthers; three great grandchildren, Alexandria, Evan and Vivienne. He is also survived by his brother, Gerald; his sisters, Joan Powell and Audrey Pierremont; sister in-law, Tina along with many nieces and nephews.

Per Roberts's request, funeral services and burial will be held privately for the family at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.

The family would like to thank Wesley Health Facility and all the caregivers for all the care and compassion given to Robert and his family during this difficult time.

Loss is so hard..... Bob made much of WW2 real to the next generations. My family has 4 generations of service. Daughter just made Colonel in the USAF Reserves. Dad fought in a P-51, 75 missions over Europe.
