Dorothy Pfender Obituary

DOROTHY M. PFENDER, 99, OF POTTSTOWN Dorothy M. Pfender, 99, of Pottstown, passed away on Saturday at Pottstown Memorial Medical Center. Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Walter J. and Elizabeth A. (Blundell) Pfender. Dorothy was a member of St. Paul's UCC in Pottstown, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School; the Pottstown Retirees, and the Pottstown Senior Circle. In her free time Dorothy painted, knitted, crocheted and braided rugs. Dorothy was employed at PMMC as a medical technologist from 1951 until 1990 and then at MCCC, Blue Bell, until she got tired of the daily commute and retired at age 92. In 1990 after she retired from the lab, Dorothy became a PMMC volunteer and contributed 25,842 hours of volunteer work. Surviving are nieces, Ann Marie Bowie of Horsham and Gail Fiore and Donna Pfender, both of Philadelphia; seven great nieces and nephews, and one great great nephew. Along with her parents, she is predeceased by her brother, Walter C. Pfender. A Funeral Service will be Saturday, 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's UCC Church, 927 N. Franklin Street, Pottstown, PA 19464, with Rev. Elmer Reinhold officiating. Entombment will follow at Highland Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 711 N. Franklin Street, Pottstown, and on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. at the church.
