Madeline A. Shanta

1928 - 2020

Madeline A. (Petro) Shanta, born March 16, 1928, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 27, 2020 at Woodbridge Place in Phoenixville. Born in Pottstown, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Stephen and Mary (Ferko) Petro. Madeline was the wife of the late George Shanta; they were able to celebrate 64 years of Marriage until his passing on July 24, 2012. She was a longtime member of St. John’s Byzantine Catholic Church of Pottstown. Madeline was an active participant with the Ladies Guild and the St. John’s Church Choir. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her Son George Shanta, husband of Ivy, Daughter Bonnie, wife of John Ballaron, Son David Shanta, Daughter Donna, wife of John Rizzardi, Son James, husband of Karen Shanta. Grandchildren; Daniel Karlson, Joshua Karlson, Gretchen Payne, Meghan Shanta, Sarah Browne, Jessica Foss, Colin Shanta, Brittany Shanta, Lindsey Toenniges, Dylan Shanta, Andrew Rizzardi and 18 Great Grandchildren. Madeline was predeceased by a brother, Leonard Petro, and Sisters: Margaret Daniel, Bertha Amole, and Irene Petro. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, January 2, 2020 at 10 A.M. at St. John’s Byzantine Catholic Church located at 301 Cherry St., Pottstown. Friends may call prior to Mass from 9 A.M. to 10 A.M. on Saturday, January 2, 2020. Burial will be in St. John’s Byzantine Cemetery, Pottstown.
