Stern Nester Obituary

STERN NESTER SR. RETIRED PAVING CONTRACTOR Stern Nester, Sr., 88, of Mock Rd., Upper Pottsgrove Twp., husband of Alice M. Nester, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at Phoenixville Hospital. Born in New Hanover Twp., PA, he was a son of the late Robert R. Nester and the late Alice (Stern) Nester Miller. Stern served in the Navy during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Helena as a Gunner’s Mate. He began is entrepreneurial endeavors in 1949 selling Christmas trees, he then built his first truck to haul coal from Philadelphia to the Pottstown area. Stern Nester Paving began soon after followed by the Sunoco Service Center on Ringing Hill. Continuing through the years as landlord, restauranteur (the Blossom) and home builder. A collector of classic convertible cars were among many of his hobbies including traveling, fishing, hunting, golf and excursions to Atlantic City. Stern was a member of New Hanover Lutheran Church, Gilbertsville, American Legion Post # 471, Boyertown, Gilbertsville Fire Co., and Pikeville Sportsman Club. He is survived by a son, Stern Nester, Jr. and his wife Erin C., Perkiomenville; four daughters Dr. Susan Kaye, Fischer, TX, Wendy Nester wife of Scott E. Schiavo, Douglassville, Luann Mitch, Pottstown, Terri Lyn wife of Daniel J. Cornelius, Louisville, KY; a sister, LeAnna R. Wagner, Boyertown; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother Robert S. Nester, and two sisters Elinor S. Yergey, Georgianna B. Price. A Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday from New Hanover Lutheran Church, 2941 Lutheran Rd., Gilbertsville. Officiating will be Reverend Thomas Lang. Burial with military honors will be in New Hanover Lutheran Church Cemetery. There will be a viewing Friday morning from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the church. Our Dad leaves behind a large, loving family who is proud of his accomplishments and the legacy for all that he has contributed to us and the surrounding communities. Contributions may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or go to www.stjude.org. Arrangements are by the Schumacher & Benner Funeral Home & Crematory, at 359 King St. in Pottstown, PA.
