Allen J. Scribner, Jr.

RHINEBECK - Allen J. Scribner, Jr, 84, of Rhinebeck, NY, died Friday, June 3, 2011. He had been a resident of the Terraces at Brookmeade and the Baptist Nursing Home for the past 16 months.

Mr. Scribner was employed by IBM in Kingston, NY for 37 years: the last 28 years in management. He retired in 1985.

Born December 22, 1926 in Kingston, NY, he was the son of the late Ellen & Allen J. Scribner, Sr. He married the love of his life, Katherine Whitney, who predeceased him on June 22, 2005. Allen served his country as a Sergeant in the US Army during WWII in the Philippines.

Allen Is survived by 2 daughters: Kathleen Bihn of Poughkeepsie, and Charlene Fraske of Saugerties, 1 son: Allen J. Scribner, III, of North Carolina, 6 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and 1 sister: Muriel Whitaker of Kingston.

A daughter, Darlene Troccia of New Hampshire, and 2 brothers, Ernie & Norman Scribner, predeceased him. Allen was an active member of the IBM Senior Bowling League in Poughkeepsie and was an avid golfer. He was very proud of his hole-in-one at College Hill Golf Course in 1999.

He was a communicant of the Church of the Good Shepherd, and volunteered at Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, Jun. 7th, at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Rhinebeck, NY. Burial with military honors will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Kingston.

Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Home, 91 E. Market St, Rhinebeck, on Monday, Jun. 6th, from 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Baptist Home, 46 Brookmeade Dr, Rhinebeck, NY 12572. The family of Allen J. Scribner would like to express their sincere, heart-felt gratitude for the endless compassion and professional care and love given to our father.
