Andrew Evans Obituary
Poughkeepsie - Andrew S. Evans, Sr. "Pops", 72, of Poughkeepsie NY died at home on Saturday October 13 surrounded by his family from a courageous battle with cancer. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed. Andrew was born in Poughkeepsie on September 19, 1940 and was a lifelong resident. He was the son of William Walter and Ella Hoffman Evans. Andrew was married to Sandra Lee Shook on January 15, 1960, who survives at home. He worked at the Hudson River Psychiatric Center in Poughkeepsie, New York as a painter and retired after 25 years of service in 1995.He enjoyed fishing and could be seen on the Hudson River every Striped Bass season fishing with his brother s. He also enjoyed Bingo with his wife, especially Friday nights at St. Peters in Poughkeepsie. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They all loved him and fondly referred to him as "Pops". In addition to his wife Sandra, he is survived by his sons Andrew Jr. and his husband Carl Rotans, Donald Elwood Evans Sr. and his Companion Jomaine Hogan of Wappinger's Falls, his daughter's Ella M. and husband Bryan Plain., Brenda Jean and husband Peter Antidormi of Pennsylvania and his 20 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and many friends. He is also survived by his Brother's Robert Evans and his wife Elizabeth "Betty" of Poughkeepsie, Leroy Evans and his wife Shirley of Staatsburg, Gordon Evans of Poughkeepsie, Sister Caroline "Chickie" Brazee of Poughkeepsie. Andrew was predeceased by hi s daughter Sandra L. Evans, his grandson Donald Elwood Evans Jr., Brothers William, Earl, John, Donald and Patrick Evans, Parents William and Ella Evans.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday 9 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home and the burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery in Poughkeepsie.
