Barbara M. (Bassett) Wardell

Keene, NH - Barbara M. (Bassett) Wardell, 94, of Keene, NH. passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 1, 2018 with the love of family at her side after a long, happy and active life.

Barbara was born the daughter of the late Floy Adelia and Guy Bassett on July 13, 1924 at Beth El Hospital in Colorado Springs, CO. She graduated from Colorado Springs High School. Barbara's first job was at the First National Bank as a teller where in May of 1943 she met her future husband, Lieutenant Edward "Ted" Wardell. On August 29, 1943 they were married at the Grace Episcopal Church.

They relocated to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. soon after and lived there until she moved to Keene, NH. in 1996.

Barbara worked for the Town of Poughkeepsie as a secretary and bookkeeper for three years. She then was employed by the Arlington Central School District as a secretary to the Principal. She was also the clerk of the school board and assistant to the Superintendent for twenty-five years until her retirement in 1983. Post retirement she worked as the bookkeeper for the Town of Stanford (NY). In December of 1996 she moved to Keene, NH. to be closer to family. Barbara continued to work as a nanny, as a Sales Associate at Clay's and Pink clothing stores and was engaged in numerous volunteer work including; Central Stage, RSVP Program, Chamber of Commerce, Jonathan Daniels Reading Program, Monadnock Humane Society and the Community Kitchen. She was also the President of the Stonehouse Commons Condo Association for several years.

Mrs. Wardell is survived by two daughters; Bardet Wardell and her husband, George Rodenhausen, and Boody Klein and her husband, Gene. A son, Woodley Wardell and his wife, Amy. Grandchildren; Nadine S. Curtis, Jesse Klein and Nick Klein and his wife, Mariela. Two great grandchildren; Pixley Curtis and Matteus Klein and her close friend, Robin Priest. Barbara was predeceased by her husband Ted who died on May 8, 1992.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at 1pm. in the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, 342 South Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. A memorial gathering will be held in the spring. All services are under the care of Cheshire Family Funeral Chapel and Crematories, 44 Maple Ave. Keene, NH. 03431.

Woody and family......I was so sad to hear of your Mom's passing. I remember her as one of the sweetest ladies growing up around the corner from you. She certainly lived an amazing life and I was glad that I knew her even for a short period of time.

What great memories of Woodley and the rest of the neighborhood kids playing wiffle ball in the back yard while Ted and Barb were having martinis and barbecuing. Couldn't of asked for better neighbors growing up in Poughkeepsie!
