Donald Scofield Obituary

Donald R. "Don" Scofield

Hyde Park - Donald R. "Don" Scofield, 82, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 30, 2018, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center with his wife and daughter by his side. He was born May 11, 1935, the son of the late Edward C. and Sara Ott Scofield.

He graduated from Beacon High School in 1954.

Don was married for 58 years to his beloved wife and best friend Lorraine Weyant Scofield, who survives. They were married January 22, 1960.

He served in the United States Army from 1958-1960.

Don was employed as a Financial Analyst at IBM Corp. just shy of 40 years. He worked at both Poughkeepsie and Kingston, retiring in March 1993.

Outside of work, gadgets peaked his interest and he was a handyman at heart. There was always something to hammer, paint or fix. His favorite reading material was a good owner's manual. He loved animals, well, except for snakes, and had pets his entire life. He enjoyed golf and watching old movies way into the night. His dry sense of humor always won over whomever he met.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his only daughter, Cynthia A. Scofield, Hyde Park; two sisters-in-law: June Weyant, Chelsea, NY; Marie Hof, Poughkeepsie. He was preceded in death by his five sisters: Edna Mae (Benjamin) Stanton; Margaret (Henry) Sylvester; Catherine (George) Sengenberger; Lavinia (Rocco) Olivieri; Florence Scofield; two brothers: William "Bill" (Grace) Scofield; Edward C "Buster" (Vivian) Scofield; brothers-in-law Jerome "Jerry" Weyant and William "Bill" Weyant, and mother-in-law Marie G. Weyant.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Dutchess County SPCA, 636 Violet Ave, Hyde Park, NY 12538 or online at www.dcspca.org/donations or Catskill Animal Sanctuary, 316 Old Stage Rd., Saugerties, NY 12477 or online at www.casanctuary.org.
