Edward Raia Obituary
Dover Plains - Edward Raia, Sr., 89, a longtime resident of Dover Plains, NY, passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at his daughter's home in Whiting, NJ. Mr. Raia retired from the Mass Transit Authority in 1986 and later worked as a contractor.
Born on January 1, 1928 in Manhattan, NY he was the son of the late Andrew and Grace (Modica) Raia. Mr. Raia was predeceased by his first wife, Louise (Furlong) Raia in August of 1986 and his second wife, Christine (Cianco) Raia on July 23, 2014. Mr. Raia was a member of the VFW Post #5444 in Amenia, NY.
Mr. Raia is survived by his children, Sandra Karp of Burbank CA, Diane Pope and husband, Herbert, of Whiting, NJ, Edward Raia Jr. and wife, Mary, of Dover Plains, NY, nine grandchildren, Andrew Scott Raia, Michelle Ann Casola, Ashley Karp, Tyler Karp, Mariah Karp, Christina Pope, Tony Pope, Christopher Pope, Johnnie Pope and Shirley Pope; five great-grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Raia, Andrew Scott Raia, Natalia Grace Raia, Evan Anthony Casola and Emily Ann Casola as well as countless other family members and friends.
Mr. Raia is additionally survived by his second wife's children, Nicholas Ciancio and his wife, Sue, of Carmichael, CA and George Ciancio Jr. and his wife, Jane, of Union Vale, NY and five granddaughters, Nicole Ray and her husband, Alexander Ray, of Carmichael, CA, Elizabeth Ciancio of Smithfield, VA and Nora, Christine, and Catherine Ciancio of Union Vale.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, May 1, 2017 at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 62 Mill St., Dover Plains, NY.
