Elizabeth "Betty" A. Benecke

POUGHKEEPSIE - Elizabeth (Betty) Alice Benecke of Poughkeepsie NY, formerly of Brooklyn died on September 30, 2013. Betty was born October 26, 1929 to the late Mary Catherine (nee Baker) and Edmund J. Gibbons in Brooklyn, NY. Betty was the school secretary at Resurrection Roman Catholic Elementary School until her retirement in 1989. In 2005, she moved to Poughkeepsie and was active in her parish St. Martin de Porres as a Eucharistic Minister and member of the senior center. On July 9, 1949 Betty married George Benecke and went on to have 8 children. Betty was predeceased by her husband George, and her two children James (Jimmy) and Elizabeth (Betty Anne). Betty is survived by her six children; George Benecke and his wife Pattie, Michael Benecke, Joseph Benecke and his wife Cathy, son in law Kevin Howard; daughters, Maryellen Dolan and her husband Tony, Cathy Varunok and her husband Pete and Jeanne Benecke and her fiancé John Corcoran. Betty is survived by seventeen grandchildren: Georgie, Jennifer and Matthew Benecke, Jeannette and Kevin Howard, Jimmy, Catherine, Joey, Robyn and Christopher Benecke, Madalyn and Danielle Dolan, Nicholas, Katey and Mikayla Varunok and Meghan and Allyson Furcick. Betty is also survived by 11 great grandchildren: Jake, Trinity, Dominick, Danny, Brianna, Xander, Mikey, Timmy, Sara, Declan and Reagan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, October 4, at 9:30am at Resurrection Church, 740 40th St., Brooklyn, NY.
