Elizabeth "Betty" Di Pompo

Beacon - Di Pompo, Elizabeth "Betty" of Beacon entered into rest April 18, 2014 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie. She was 73.

Elizabeth was President / Comptroller of AAAAAR Orthopedics Inc. 1995 to the Present.

Wife of Michael Di Pompo, COL. AUS. Ret.

Born September 5, 1940 at St. Vincent Hospital, Manhattan NYC, NY, she was the daughter of Marion A (nee Jaeger) Hawkins and Vincent Hawkins.

On August 31, 1958, she married Michael Di Pompo, in St. Anthony's R.C. Church in the Bronx, NY.

She accompanied her husband, to his first permanent Military Assignment at Ft. Benning GA. after the birth of their first child.

In June of 1970, she and her family moved to Beacon, NY. As her husband was transferred to the VAMC Castle Point to organize the Orthotics Medical Rehabilitation Support Service for the returning Viet Nam Veterans, and all other Veterans of the Wars of the United States.

She immersed herself into the community and observed ways that she could aid and assist her fellow Beaconites. She became a member of St. Joachim's Women's Club and was Vice President of the Concerned Citizens Organization of Beacon. After the attack of 9-11, she asked her husband to prepare a "White Paper" (based on his military training as a "Special Operations Officer") of action that should be taken to help safeguard the City of Beacon. One of the observation suggestions, in that "White Paper" was that concrete barriers should be placed at the entrance path to the New Police Station, as the angulation of the new parking lot placed the unprotected entranceway at risk for a bomb laden truck. Within two weeks of the presentation of the "White Paper" the suggested barriers were emplaced.

She faithfully attended the weekly city council meetings for nearly fifteen years. While attending those meetings she was appalled to learn that the Chief of Police, Chief Sassi, was under attack for enforcing the Law equally. She then testified on behalf of Chief Sassi, in order for him to prevail against his detractors.

On another occasion she was appalled to find out that Police Officers would not be issued "Bullett Resistant Vests" due to funding constraints. She contacted Congressional Representative, at the time, Sue Kelly, and with Chief Sassi, and secured the funding for the Vests. A short time later, a Beacon Police Officer was shot by an armed Criminal, the "Bullet Resistant Vest" secured by Betty Di Pompo and Chief Sassi, saved that Officers Life.

On another occasion she was appalled to learn, that a citizen recovering from a temporary disability, of the city of Beacon was in danger of losing her home, due to the inability to pay her taxes in a lump sum payment. She then lobbied the Mayor Gould and the City Council to set up a system of monthly payments, so that citizens, with monetary difficulties could pay their taxes and keep their homes.

She observed that the children of Mt. Beacon Park, were having to walk in the roadway of the park, on their way to school, in the early morning hours, before it was full daylight. She began the process of petitioning the City, and attending all the necessary committee meetings, to extend the existing sidewalk out to Wolcott Ave. so that the children could walk on a side walk and not in the roadway. She also had a stop sign installed in a dangerous intersection.

She ensured that she would support the candidates for office that were best qualified, regardless of their political party.

Insured that a somewhat physically disabled, Minority Citizen of Beacon, was able to stay in her home, by the aid and assistance of her husband and sons, in keeping the citizen's sidewalks and entrance way cleared during more than 25 years of winter weather.

Among Elizabeth's many numerous employments were the Assistant Manager, Hud Section "8" Qualification Specialist, Accounts Billing Specialists, USMA West Point, NY, Instructor Medical Billing Specialist, Computer Format Driven, Department Manager Barkers Department Store, Chief Kitchen Supervisor / Chief Cook, Butterfield Hospital. Her many skills and talents were Computer Literate Microsoft Works ( Windows 2000) Medisoft ( Medical Billing Program), Medical Billings Prosthetics/Orthosis ( ICD-9 MC Code's / CPT Code's Specialize in Medicare/Medicaid/No-Fault/Workers Comp. Computerized Bookkeeping, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Maintain Ledger Records, Payroll Deductions, Cash Receipt, Bank Statement Reconciliation: Management Skills, Dietary Cook, Hospital Kitchen Supervisor, Section "8" Certification / Rectification Specialist: Self Starter, Dependable, and Productive.

Survivors include her husband Michael Di Pompo, COL. AUS. Ret. who survives her at home, her two sons Michael V. Di Pompo, Retired Federal Firefighter, and former City of Beacon volunteer Firefighter for over 25 years and Richard G. Di Pompo, B.Sc. O&P, Vice President of AAAAAR Orthopedics Inc., her sisters, Marion P. Geremia, RN and her husband Dr. John O. Geremia and Eileen Frazier Certified Paralegal and Administrative Assistant, sisters in law, Mrs. Frances Marino and her husband Nicholas and Mrs. Anna Ingrisone, and a niece of Michael Di Pompo: Mrs. Emily Cunningham and her husband Jack. As well as numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews of the extended family members that are in her heart.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 2, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm, Saturday, May 3, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm and Sunday May 4, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm at Libby Funeral Home, Inc. 55 Teller Ave. Beacon, NY.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Monday, May 5, 11:00 am at St. Joachim's Catholic Church 61 Leonard St. Beacon, NY

Entombment will follow in Fishkill Rural Cemetery Mausoleum, Fishkill, NY.
