Reverend Elliot J. Lewis

Poughkeepsie - Reverend Elliot Jay Lewis, 58, departed this life on February 17, 2014 at Vassar Bros. Medical

Center. Born on June 9, 1955 in Poughkeepsie, NY, he was the third son of Phillip J. Lewis and the late Catherine Anderson Lewis. He married his beloved wife Irma Bruno Lewis on October 10, 1998 who survives at home.

Rev. Lewis was first educated in the Hyde Park School District and then graduated from the Glenn Springs Academy in June 1973 where he was named "Who's Who Among High School Students." He earned an Associate Certificate in Chemical Dependency

Counseling from Dutchess Community College in May 2005. His occupations were grounded in the family business, Phillip Lewis Construction, and included work in IBM, sprinkler fitting and landscaping/snow removal. In his leisure, Rev. Lewis was an avid fisherman, poet, singer, craftsman, and musician who played the drums in school bands and the Tighten-Ups Drill Team in his youth. In his life, he resided in Virginia, Texas,

Ohio and Maryland before returning to this area in the early 1990's.

Rev. Lewis was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Poughkeepsie, where he received his Christian foundation as a child. He was licensed to preach the Gospel at Ebenezer in July 1998 and ordained in March 2005. He served as an Associate Minister and was active in the Outreach, Building and Grounds and Music ministries.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, father, stepmother Perrinella "Penny" Lewis;

stepson Danny Coley; brother Zachary S. Lewis (Veronica) of Columbus, OH; sisters Nadine K. Lewis and Rena Williams, both of Poughkeepsie, Ruthie McKelton (John) of Waynesboro, GA, and Olivia Williams-Taylor of Las Vegas, NV; uncle Albert E. "Jake"

Anderson (Peggie); great-aunt Bessie Riley; aunts Barbara D. Anderson, Charlene Lewis, and Barbara J. Anderson; a granddaughter; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Preceding him in death was his mother and brother Phillip Steven Lewis.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 28, 2014 at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 15 Smith Street, Poughkeepsie, NY with the viewing at 10 am and the service at 11:00am officiated by Rev. E. Clayton Wade, Pastor. Arrangements have been entrusted to Joseph J. Darrow Sr. Funeral Home, 39 So. Hamilton Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. (845)452-1840.
