Hugh Welch Obituary

Hugh Patrick Welch

Highland, NY - Hugh Patrick Welch, of Highland, passed away October 19, 2011. Hugh was born in Jamaica, NY on February 10, 1928. He was the son of Patricia O'Rourke Welch and Fredrick B. Welch.

Hugh served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1952. He was a First Class electrician for Central Hudson out of Poughkeepsie, NY retiring in 1988. Hugh was a member of the Quarter Century Club and a lifetime member of the Plutarch Gun Club, along with being a past president. He was also an avid golfer and an active member of the Central Hudson Golf league. Hugh was an avid outdoors man pursuing hunting and trout fishing. In his retirement, gardening was his 2nd career.

On April 18, 1953 he married Barbara Regina Maroldt in St. Augustine's Church, Highland, NY.

Hugh is survived by his wife, Barbara (Maroldt) Welch of 58 years. His daughters: Kathleen Nord of Kingston and Her Husband Wayne, Eileen Morgan of Hyde Park and her Husband G. Brian. His Sons: Thomas Welch of New Paltz and his Wife Suzanne, Timothy Welch of Highland and his wife Maureen, Grandchildren Rob Morgan, Amanda Mitchell, Katelyn Welch and Kyle Welch,his Sister, Suzanne Polacco of Kingston and his brother Michael Welch of NYC. His brother Daniel Welch died previously.Many nieces and nephews in the Hudson Valley survive as well. Calling hours will be held Friday October 21st, from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 38 Main Street, Highland, NY 12528. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, October 22nd at 10:00 am at St.Augustine's Roman Catholic Church, Highland, NY with burial to follow in Union Cemetery of Llyod with full military honors.
