John Walsh Obituary
Hyde Park - John T. Walsh, Sr., 91, of Hyde Park, NY passed away at home on May 25, 2020. He was born on August 27, 1928 in Ossining, NY, the son of Thomas J. & Ethel M. Galloway Walsh, Sr. Following graduation from Poughkeepsie High School John enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from 1946-1948 as part of the Army of Occupation in Japan.
Following his service he joined the IBEW Local# 363 in Poughkeepsie as a Union Electrician and just received his 75 Year Membership Pin from the Union. He was a member of St. Peter's Church and was a longtime Friend of Bill W. He kept his sobriety by passing it along to others and sponsored many individuals to achieve their goals of sobriety . John enjoyed sports and played football while in the Army.
Survivors include his sons: John T. Walsh, Jr. of Lake Katrine, NY; Jeffrey T. Walsh of Hyde Park, NY; Thomas J. Walsh of Hyde Park, NY; daughters: Cindy Ann Costello of Houston, TX.; Micki (Douglas) Strawinski of Red Hook, NY; Nancy Walsh of Poughkeepsie, NY; brother: Thomas J. Walsh, Jr. of Wappinger Falls, NY; sisters: Mary Michels of Hyde Park, NY and Patricia Taylor of Poughkeepsie, NY. There are 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters: Margret Heady, Catherine Kondor and Dorothy Tibbetts.
There are no calling hours. Services are private and burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery.
