Joseph Wisner Obituary

Joseph K. Wisner

VERBANK - Joseph K. Wisner, 74 of Verbank, died on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Born in Mt. Vernon, NY on May 1, 1939, he was the son of the late Martin "Steve" and Harriet Smith Wisner. Joe served his country with the US Army from 1962 - 1965 and then with the US Army Reserves from 1965 - 1968. On September 11, 1971 at St. Sylvia's Church in Tivoli,NY, Joe married Jane Minard. Mrs. Wisner survives at home.

He began his career with New York Telephone in 1966 and retired in 2001 with Verizon. After his retirement from the phone company, he worked part time as a doorman at the Executive tower building on Academy Street in Poughkeepsie.

Mr. Wisner was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Church in Millbrook and a member of St. Joseph's Knights of Columbus.

He was a loving Father and Grandfather, in addition to his wife Jane, he is survived by his daughter Susan Marie Wisner of Verbank; his granddaughter Leanne Wisner of Verbank; his brother Robert Wisner of Cornwall,NY; his aunt Marie Wisner of Millbrook; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Tuesday, November 26 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Allen Funeral Home, 3270 Franklin Ave., Millbrook. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, November 27 at 11 am from St. Joseph's Church, North Ave., Millbrook. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Millbrook. Joe Wisner was always the first one to arrive for St. Joseph Choir rehearsals and services. He loved to sing with his wonderful Baritone voice and was a backbone of the choir. He will surely be missed. Joe was a gentle man.
