Joyce Elaine (Cohen) Cunningham

Poughkeepsie - Joyce Elaine (Cohen) Cunningham, born on December 5, 1932 died peacefully at home in Poughkeepsie alongside her loving family. Joyce was retired after working for 35 years as a medical librarian at Hudson River Psychiatric Center. Joyce loved animals, and was an avid gardener that loved tending to her garden each year. She grew the most beautiful trees and flowers. She was a top-notch fashionista and had the accessories to match any outfit for any occasion. She loved the ocean and enjoyed many days with her toes in the sand and the waves crashing over her. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was the matriarch of the family tree and wanted nothing more than health and success for those she loved. She was sassy and strong.

She is survived by her daughter Noreen McDonald, and sons Malvern Cunningham and Gary Cunningham. She is predeceased by her son, Bruce Cunningham. She is also survived by her sisters, Dolores Surrano, Susan Ruddy, Sonny Hyman, and Diane Hyman. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Cherie McDonald, Justin Cunningham, Ashley Cunningham, Melanie Cunningham, and Malvern Cunningham Jr.; great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was a guiding force, friend, and confidant to her granddaughter, Christy McDonald, with whom she shared an immense bond. Her presence will be missed but her impact will be everlasting.
