Poughkeepsie - Lorena (aka Lorine) Payton born in Marion, Alabama on September 7, 1939 to Allen Leverette and Wiletta (Jones) Leverette a resident of Poughkeepsie, N.Y. since 1962 entered into eternal rest on Sunday, May 20, 2018 in the presence of her daughter, LaWanda at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
Lorena was raised in the Baptist faith and was educated in the Brent Alabama School District. She was employed as a Dietary Group Leader at St. Francis Hospital for 30+ years.
She leave to cherish her memories; daughters, LaWanda Payton (Antoine) of Poughkeepsie, NY, and Deborah Lee of Burgaw, NC; one sister, Paralee Ford of Birmingham, AL; grandsons, Justice A.N. Rivera and Manuel A. Rivera IV of Poughkeepsie, NY; granddaughter, Shayna Lee of Rocky Mount, NC; great-granddaughters, Sa'Nayiah Lee Morgan and So'Raiyah A. Lee of Rocky Mount, NC; mother-in-law, Landona Bailey of Niagara Falls, NY; several nieces, nephew and other relatives and friends; special daughters and grandchildren acquired through her touching their lives and those who have touched hers throughout the years.
She is predeceased by one son, Daniel Payton; 6 brothers, Arthur, Johnny, Jonah, Lee Curtis, Walker James, and Wilbert David; 4 sisters, Florence, Lillie Mae, Willie Ann, and Rosa Lee; ex-husband, Douglas Payton.
Mrs. Payton will repose 10-11 a.m. Friday, June 1, 2018 at Beth-EL COGIC, 91 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. Service at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Supt. Dwight Hunt will officiate. Interment at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, Poughkeepsie, NY. Professional service entrusted to Rhodes Funeral Home, 43 Fairview Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. My Condolences to the Family and Friends of Ms Lorraine(Lorine). My neighbor as a young teen remembers her affectionate smile. LaWanda your mother's smile is a trait you definitely have.
