Michael Scherhaufer Obituary
Fishkill - Michael John Scherhaufer passed away unexpectedly surrounded by his family on December 10, 2015 in Boston, MA. He was 56. Michael was born on September 15, 1959 to Elaine and the late Donald Scherhaufer in Johnson City, NY. He was a graduate of Chenango Forks High School and attended Broome Community College, SUNY Binghamton and Hamilton College. On October 15,1983 he married Nancy Smyk. Michael worked at Robintech, IBM for 29 years at various locations, RSA Bedford, MA and was currently working at Dimension Data in Hartford, CT.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy, his children, Christopher Scherhaufer and fiancee Catie Stack, Wilton, NH, Kathryn Scherhaufer and fiance Robert Stephens, Fishkill, Matthew and Sarah Scherhaufer, Bel Alton, MD, Sara Scherhaufer, Fishkill, grandchildren, Hailey, Stephen and Madison Scherhaufer, mother, Elaine Scherhaufer and sister Linda Scherhaufer, Glen Castle, NY, mother-in-law Ardra Smyk, Endicott, NY and brother-in-law, Peter Smyk, Longmont, CO.
Cremation is under the direction of Casper Funeral & Cremation Services, 187 Dorchester Street, Boston, MA 02127. To honor Michael's wishes there will be no services. Those wishing kindly consider making a donation to Dana Farber Cancer Institute at www.dana-farber.org or the Dutchess County SPCA at www.dcspca.org in his memory.

Mike was well liked and loved. Through all our years at CF and when we crossed paths later, always a kind word and kind heart. My life , high school and beyond, is much better because Mike was a part of it. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you all.

The short time I knew Michael and worked with him, he had a great impact on me at DD. I enjoyed talking with him about his many experiences and learned much from him. He will be greatly missed!

It is with sympathy and a heavy heart, that I write this to the Sherhaufer family.The words smart,kind,caring,funny,big,courageous,intimidating,generous,are-just a chip of the iceberg to describe your son,your brother,your husband,your father,our friend. We called him "SUMO" and he truly was a mountain of a man. Almost 40 years have passed, from the Blue Devil days, but our friendships live on forever. Rest in peace "SUMO".

I went to HS with mike 9-12 grade. We played football, he was a true friend. We carpooled to the junior prom. I lost touch with mike, but you never forget a great friend like mike! My deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

Mike was a great friend. He was brilliant, he was hilarious, and he was one of the kindest people I have ever known. I have so many great memories of Mike from the years we worked together. I count myself lucky to have known him.
