Paul Kapushoc Obituary

Paul Kapushoc

Wappingers Falls - Paul Kapushoc of Wappingers Falls entered into rest Monday, December 30, 2013 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was 83.

Son of the late Paul and Mary Gavalla Kapushoc, he was born on June 1, 1930 in Cementon, PA. He married the former Lois Maystrik on July 6, 1968 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in New Hyde Park; Mrs. Kapushoc survives at home.

Paul served his country in the United States Navy, joining in June of 1948 and was honorably discharged five years later. After receiving training at the US Naval Air Technical Training Center (NATTC) in Memphis, TN, Paul was stationed on Kwajalein, an atoll in the Marshall Islands. He finished his service at the U.S. Naval Air Station in Alameda, California. After two years of study at a technical school in Washington, DC, Paul began his work career at Allen Organ Company, Macungie, Pennsylvania and a local Allentown radio station. Paul also worked for Western Electric in Pennsylvania before moving to Dutchess County in 1963. Here, he worked as a Senior Electrical Technician for IBM in East Fishkill, until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club and the IBM Computer Club.

In his spare time, Paul enjoyed listening to jazz and working on the New York Times Crossword. He was an avid vegetable gardener and loved sailing on Lake Taconic. Most of all, he enjoyed being home with his family; his home was where he was happiest.

In addition to his wife, Lois, survivors include his sons, Andrew Kapushoc of Arlington, TX, and Stephen Kapushoc and his wife, Heather of Herndon, VA; grandchildren, Lucian, Natalie and Hayden; his mother-in-law, Julia Maystrik; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marlene and Emil Vyskocil; and several nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Paul's wishes, there will be no calling hours.

Memorial donations may be made in Paul's name to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018.

Arrangements are under the direction of Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
