Peter Vanikiotis Obituary
Poughkeepsie - Peter Vanikiotis, age 51, passed away on Monday, September 8, 2014. He was born on December 2, 1962 in Skoteini, Greece to Nicholas and Maria Vanikiotis. Peter came with his family to this country in 1974 where he attended Poughkeepsie High School. In 1981, he and his family opened their first restaurant, The Palace Diner on Washington Street in Poughkeepsie. For the next thirty years, he and his family worked closely to open up several other restaurants in Dutchess and Ulster Counties.
Peter was predeceased by his father Nicholas Vanikiotis and is survived by his mother Maria Vanikiotis, his son Nicholas P. Vanikiotis and daughter Maria P. Vanikiotis. He is also survived by his brothers Theodore Vanikiotis and his wife Roseanne, and daughter Maria Teresa, Constantinos Vanikiotis and his wife Elizabeth and their three sons Christopher, Michael and Zachary, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, September 14, 2014 from 4:00-8:00pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. The funeral will take place on Monday, September 15, 2014 at 10:00am at the Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church. Burial will follow in the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Dyson Center, Vassar Brothers Medical Ctr., Reade Place, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. Dear Teddy and Roseanne and family, I was so saddened to see that Peter had passed. The memories I have of my parents coming to the diner with all there friends and the parties we have had there. Always had a little crush on Peter and those eyes. From the Palace, to the diner on Rt6.to the Brass Anchor,to Table Talk to the Red .. he worked hard. When ever I saw him always with a smile and hug and asked about my folks. RIP Peter..

I was so shocked and sad to see this in today's paper. Years ago when I was strugglng as a single parent raising Cheyenne, Peter hired me to waitress evenings @Brass Anchor. He was a tough employer who expected excellence and in return was very, very generous. He always fed me after my shift, gave me little gifts that vendors had shared with him and those 'green mediterrean eyes':) It was a couple of great summers spent there working, socializing, making $$$. I miss Brass Anchor and will always be grateful for his kindness during a difficult time for me. RIP
