Richard Hart Obituary

Richard Hart

Hyde Park - On Friday, March 30, 2018, Richard Ellington Hart quietly passed away at home. Richard was being tenderly cared for and loved by his family at the time of his passing. He was born May 25, 1927 to William and Lillian Hart of Poughkeepsie, NY. Richard lived his childhood years in Poughkeepsie and Highland. His family owned several apple farms, and so many of his childhood memories were lived out on the farms with his grandparents, aunts, and uncles. He loved to share his farm memories at the family dinner table. We would hear the same story many times but always laughed with him. The "Good Pie Abbie" story will never be forgotten.

After serving in the U.S. Navy from 1945-1947, Richard met his dearing wife Dorothy Hart (Mahoney) on a blind date, and on September 5,1948 they married in Poughkeepsie. They remained married for 69 years. Richard retired from IBM Poughkeepsie in 1986 after 38 years of employment. He enjoyed his retirement years with family and friends. His favorite retirement activities included golfing with his best friends and family, walks at Vanderbilt's, morning coffee with "The McDonalds Seven", traveling to visit family and cooking. He touched the lives of every family member and friend. Very fond memories are shared by all. His smile and welcoming personality will be greatly missed. Richard lived a wonderful long healthy life. He was a peaceful man and loved dearly.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; sons Richard Hart, Jr. (Janina), Thomas Hart, Patrick Hart, Timothy Hart (Theresa) and daughter Donna Hart (Richard Buotte); twelve grandchildren: Sarah Hart, Sean Hart, Justin Hart, Ryan Hart, Christopher Hart, James Hart, Matthew Hart, Daniel Hart, Jr., Eugene Hart, Terry Hart, Leslie Tuttle and Eric Tuttle, five great grandchildren, nephew William "Billy" Hart; nieces Barbara Hart and Marilyn Hart of Poughkeepsie and Hyde Park.

He was predeceased by his son Daniel Hart in 2012 and his brother, William Hart Jr.

Arrangements have been entrusted with Joseph J. Darrow Sr. Funeral Home Inc. 39 S. Hamilton St, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. 845-452-1840. Private Services will be held by graveside upon further notice. To send online condolences, please visit www.darrowfuneralhome.org
