Port St. Lucie, Florida - Theresa passed away peacefully on March 27, 2017, after a short illness while she was a resident at Port Saint Lucie Nursing and Restorative Care, Port Saint Lucie, Florida.

Theresa(Tessie)was born in Poughkeepsie, New York on April 20, 1929 to Thomas Burns and Loretta Shaw Burns and was one of thirteen children.

She is survived by her daughter, Ann Marie Ruby and her son-in-law Richard N. Ruby, Sr., her granddaughter Sabrina Marie Armstrong, and great granddaughter Brianna Renee Armstrong, all of Port Saint Lucie, also a step granddaughter, Carrie Ruby-Geiger of Glenford, New York, a step son Ricky Owens, one sister Winifred Miles, Florida and a number of nieces and nephews.

Theresa was predeceased by her husband Harold Owens and son, James Robert Holmes and daughter-in-law Susan Schrick-Holmes. She was also predeceased by her parents, and brothers: Ernie, Cornelius(Mickey), Thomas, James, and Patrick and her sisters: Nellie, Emma, Margie, Mary, Catherine, and Carol. (In true Irish form they were all commonly referred to as the Burns Clan.)

Theresa attended Poughkeepsie Schools and worked for Vassar Hospital, Flick's Nursing Home, Poughkeepsie Inn, Holiday Inn, and Vassar College. Her biggest joy was to take Sunday drives with her husband Harold and their dog Jack, often ending up at Morgan Lake with a fishing pole and a catch of fish. She loved to just be alone and watch TV, especially the Golden Girls and Reba.

A Celebration of life will take place on Friday, April 28, 2017, at Miller Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603 with a Visitation from 10-10:30AM followed by a Service at 11AM.Burial will be in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, 260 Prima Vista Blvd., Port Saint Lucie, FL 34983, The Salvation Army or a charity of your choice.
