Walter C. Dyer

Marlboro - Walter C. Dyer, Jr., of Marlboro, NY, passed away on Tuesday, February 2nd, 2021. Walter was born in Sussex, New Jersey on June 11, 1940 to the late Laura F. and Walter C. Dyer, Sr. The family moved to New Paltz in 1945, and Walter lived most of his life in the area.

Walter graduated from New Paltz High School in 1960 where he excelled in all sports, lettering in football, basketball, and track nearly every year. The greatest joy of his young life was spending time on his grandparents and aunt and uncle's farms in New Jersey. From an early age, he was happiest while riding a tractor or milking cows.

From New Paltz, he moved to Unionville, NY to work at the American Silk Labeling Company. Upon returning to the area, he and his family settled in Hyde Park, and he worked as manager of the Agway Horticultural Crop Center in Milton, NY for many years. He then began a landscaping business, Dyer Lawn Care, which he owned and operated until 2014.

Walter's gift of gab, and his willingness to help anyone in need, endeared him to his customers and, indeed, the many others whom he met along his life's path. He was warm and caring and enjoyed life.

He leaves behind the love of his life, Arlene Vanacore, his sister, Linda Dyer Smith (Mike), three children, David Dyer (Erika), Susan Dyer Noe (Dale), Beth Dyer Phillips, four grandchildren, Matthew (Alix), Kaitlyn (Cody), Alexandra, and Ariana, and a niece, Jessica McArt (Scott), and nephew, Sean Smith (Arron).

He will be interred at St. Mary's Cemetery in Marlboro. At this time, there will be a private family funeral. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the ASPCA or the American Diabetes Association.
