Bert DeHerrera, 70

A celebration of life for Bert DeHerrera, 70, of North Liberty will be held from 6-8pm on March 17, 2017 at Parkview Church, Iowa City. On February 28, 2017, Bert passed away surrounded by her family and friends at home after a four year battle with cancer. Charitable donations can be made to Iowa City Hospice thanking them for the wonderful care she received during her battle.

Bertha "Bert" Marlene (Yutzy) DeHerrera was born January 28, 1947 in rural Kalona, Iowa, the daughter of Roman and Frances (Gerig) Yutzy. She attended Hickory Grove School, the one room school house, from K-8 and graduated from Iowa Mennonite School in 1965. She was last employed at the Hope Lodge in Iowa City. She was a member of Parkview Church, Iowa City where she was active as a foreign exchange host, ushering, and serving on a mission trip to Mexico. Earlier in Wichita, Kansas she was also involved with Sunday school and bus ministries. Her greatest passions in life were spending time with her family and friends, traveling, High Tea, and her love for hats.

Survivors include her children, Robert (Cindy) Miller of Wellman, IA, Victoria (Justin) Deitrich of Tiffin, IA, Matthew (Kristen) DeHerrera of Rochester, NH, Nathan (Carrie) DeHerrera of Oxford, IA and step-son Herman Richard DeHerrera Jr of Colorado. She was a fun and loving Grammy to Peyton, Jace, Grace, Noah, Ainsley, Sarina, Sarah, Daniel and Desmond. Siblings include Mary (John) Dachtler, Oxford, IA, Dottie Yutzy, Anchorage, AK, Linda Stodolski, Glen Allen, VA, Lois Bava, West Branch, IA, Nicholas (Nancy) Yutzy, Coralville, IA and Charity (Daryl) Schlabaugh, Coralville, IA along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Roman and Frances (Gerig) Yutzy , two nieces and a nephew.
