Shirley Otten Obituary

Shirley Ann Otten age 66 of Amana died Saturday morning, June 5, 2010 at the Colonial Manor of Amana Nursing Home following a long battle with Lou Gehrig's disease.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 Thursday morning, June 10, 2010 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Monticello, Iowa with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery. Rev Darryl Larson will officiate at the services. Friends may call from 4 until 7 Wednesday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello. Surviving are 2 children, Amy (Terry) Ira, Iowa City, Doug (Lori) Otten, La Plata, Maryland, 8 Grandchildren, 4 sisters, Janice (John) Brokens, Carrollton, Texas, Joan (Bill) Barton, Monticello, Sharon (Bill) Kutcher, Oxford, Mary Ann (Dave) Mullis, Greeley. She was preceded in death by her Parents.
Shirley Ann Podhaski was born December 6, 1943 at Monticello, Iowa. She was the daughter of Carroll and Ruth Kasper, Podhaski. She graduated from the Monticello Community Schools with the class of 1962. Shirley married Edward Otten on August 2, 1964 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church. The couple lived in Cedar Rapids and Coralville. Shirley was employed at the University of Iowa in the Physics Department until 1969. The couple divorced in 1981. Shirley had been a resident of Colonial Manor of Amana the past 22 years.
