Steve Keith Obituary

Steve Keith, 57

Steve Keith lost his battle with cancer in the early morning of May 10th. He is remembered as a coach, scout leader, loyal friend, & more importantly loving family man. He loved to spend his time watching Hawkeye Football, hunting, golfing, playing card games with his friends, & being a one of kind husband & father. The memories of him laughing, teasing & his famous quick wit are infinite; he could go anywhere & make friends with strangers.

The memorial service will be held Monday May 15th from 5PM to 9PM at Kinnick Stadium in the Mediacom Outdoor Club. The family asks that everyone wear black & gold in remembrance of his love for the Hawkeyes & his laid back free spirit personality. In lieu of flowers, all donations will go to Iowa City Hospice in Steve's name.

Surviving family members include his wife Carol, daughter Steph, son Matt, daughter-in-law Torie, mother Nan, father Fran, sisters Becky & Kris, & many nieces & nephews.

Oh, my. A belated condolence to Steve's family. I was a good friend of 'Speedo' in our college years, and remember his intelligence, wit and boy, was he handsome! Very saddened by his shortened life, but the grace of God will give him rest!

It is sad to hear of the passing of a fellow North High classmate (Class of 1978) and fellow devout Hawkeye fan, I didn't know until today of Steve passing. We both survived Warren Harding Jr. High with our wits still amazingly in tact. Like Steve my father was also a North High Alumnus

Carol, Matt and Stephanie
I apologize for being late with this but i just found out this morning. I worked with Steve for 20+ years.
We had a few things in common including growing up in Des Moines. We used to talk about our memories of the East Side of Des Moines. He also liked some of the pictures from the area known as "Snoosville" around E 9th in East Des Moines. I am very sad to hear this, please accept my condolences for your loss and remember all the good things about Steve. I will.
Best Wishes Mike Cox

Steve was a great friend and brother-in-law to me when we first returned to Iowa City from New York. He included me in some "social activities", played golf together, played softball for Boggs, etc. That meant a lot to me, as most of the people I hung out with had left the area. We shared a love for sports, Hawkeyes, but he loved the White Sox and I was a Yankee fan.
I'm sorry that he is no longer here, but his memory will live on in many people. You are in our prayers.

Carol, Matt and Steph,
I never thought I would be writing to you for this purpose. It is all so inconceivable and won't sink in for a long time. We'll miss Steve terribly, the laughs, stories about hunting and the dogs, the scruffy beard and I guess a little work. We are so sorry for your loss.

Very sorry to learn of Steve's passing. Many good memories of Steve - hanging out, playing softball and golf, going to a few IA football and basketball games together.

A man with a very quick wit - just like the obit says. Always a lot of fun to be around.

My family's thoughts and prayers are with the Keith family during this challenging time.

God Bless the Keith Family. Steve you will be missed by many. I do remember the time you and I had the opportunity to attend a BB game at the Carver Arena. Our tickets gave us access to the Hawkeye Club, giving us the opportunity to enjoy an adult beverage before and at half time. We also had two of the best seats in the house to watch the game. I know you had brought this up many times teasing friends of being able to have a beer and watch the game at Carver arena. Now with your passing Steve, I would imagine you now will have the very best seat in the house for both Hawkeye Basketball and Football. God Bless you.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Keith's Family. Steve you will be missed by so many. I'll never forget the time you and I attended that BB game at Carver arena. We got to sit in the Hawkeye club and actually enjoy an adult beverage before and after the game. We had some of the best seats at Carver to enjoy the game. I know you talked about that many times after. I know now Steve, you have the best seats in the house for both Hawkeye Football and Basketball. God bless The Keith Family.
