Bette Michalak
of Chenango Bridge
Bette Michalak, 56, of Chenango Bridge, passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, March 6, 2004, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Her mother, Rachael Palmer predeceased her. She is survived by her father, Ronald Palmer, Johnson City; her son, Joseph Michalak, Brooklyn; her daughter and son-in-law, Tammie and Keith Werkman, Endicott; her daughter, Michelle Michalak, New Jersey; two sisters and two brothers-in-law, Bonnie and George Maney, Binghamton, Laurie and Bill Hallenbeck, Binghamton; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; special friends, Marlene Schultz, Long Island, and Jackie Hogan, Johnson City; as well as her dog, Cooper. Bette was a beautiful woman with a gracious heart, which she devoted to her children and home. She was a dedicated employee for many years at Boscov's Department Store as their floral designer, gift department manager and most recently the human resource assistant manager. In her free time, Bette loved creating crafts, floral arranging, collecting antiques and traveling. Her warm smile and kind spirit will be sadly missed by all whose lives she touched.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2004, at 9:30 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, 155 Main Street, Johnson City. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. At Bette's request, there will be no calling hours, however, her family shall greet the bereaved before and after the mass. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy and contributions may be made to the Hospice Program c/o Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, 169 Riverside Drive, Binghamton, N.Y. 13905, UHS Foundation c/o Breast Care Fund, 10-42 Mitchell Avenue, Binghamton, N.Y. 13903, or to Broome Oncology c/o Women's Cancer Support Group, 30 Harrison Street, Johnson City, N.Y. 13760.
