Bruce Atkinson Obituary


Rev. Bruce C. Atkinson
of Endwell
Rev. Bruce C. Atkinson went home peacefully to be with our Savior on October 17, 2008. Bruce graduated from Penn State University as a Chemical Engineer. He served in the United States Army Signal Corps, Pacific Theater in the 2nd World War. After graduating from Covenant Seminary, Bruce served Jesus Christ as a Minister in several churches, including some in the Broome Country area. Bruce retired from IBM in 1984 after more than 25 years of service. He was an avid ham radio operator, pianist and photographer. Bruce was a man of great spiritual depth and patience, sound wisdom and discernment, wit and humor. He honored our Lord and our family as an example of a good and faithful Christian servant and teacher and was a loving husband and father. Bruce is predeceased by his parents, William A. and Marion Atkinson, and is survived by the love of his life, Ginnie, his wife of 60 years; a daughter, Gail Susan and Peter A. Donovan, Scottsdale, Ariz.; a son, John Mark and JoAnne Atkinson, Austin, Tex.; a son, Stephen Bruce and Valerie Atkinson; and six grandchildren, Kyle and Kelsey Donovan, Sean, Shelby, Kaden and Travis Atkinson. Bruce is also survived by a brother, Walt and Lois Atkinson, Portville, N.Y.; and a sister, Dr. Ruth and Dr. John Roper, Seneca, S.C.; and numerous nieces of nephews. Special thanks are extended by the family to the staff of Hilltop Retirement Community for their kindness to and tender care for Bruce.
Expressions of sympathy can be made to Northminster Presbyterian Church and the American Heart Association in lieu of flowers. The family will receive friends at Northminster Presbyterian Church, Endwell, on Thursday, October 23, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. A memorial service will be held immediately thereafter at 11:00 a.m. at Northminster. Interment will be private. Arrangements are by the Barber Memorial Home, Inc., 428 Main Street, Johnson City.
