of Meshoppen, Pa.Daniel Joseph McGavin, age 53 of Briar Ridge, Meshoppen, Pa., passed away at the Valley Crest Nursing Home in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. on Saturday, March 18, 2006. Danny was born in Meshoppen, Pa. on March 28, 1952, the youngest son of Paul J. McGavin and the late Winifred (Winetta) Burke McGavin, who passed away on December 20, 2003. Danny was a graduate of the Elk Lake High School Class of 1970. He was employed as a technician at the Procter and Gamble Paper Products in Mehoopany, Pa. for over fifteen years before retiring in 1989 and later was a self-employed quarryman around the Meshoppen area. He was a member of the St. Joachims-St. Bonaventures Roman Catholic Church, Meshoppen and Auburn, Pa. A member of the Meshoppen Rod and Gun Club and the South Mountain Sportsman's Club in Noxen, Pa. In his spare time, Danny enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing softball. Surviving are his father, Paul J. McGavin, Meshoppen, Pa.; two brothers, Martin J. McGavin and Timothy and his wife Tracie McGavin, all of Meshoppen, Pa.; three nephews, one niece and two great-nephews. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Besides his mother, he was also preceded in death by a nephew, Mark McGavin, in 1968.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at 11 a.m. from the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Meshoppen, Pa. with Fr. Bryan Wright of the St. Joachim-St. Bonaventure Roman Catholic Church officiating. Interment will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Auburn, Pa. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 21, 2006 from 6 to 9 p.m. A Rosary will be recited at the funeral home on Tuesday evening at 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial donations to the Meshoppen Volunteer Fire Department, Meshoppen, Pa. 19830.
