Daniel Myers Obituary

Myers Sr., Daniel J.

Vestal - Daniel J. Myers, Sr., 91, of Vestal & formerly the Eastside of Binghamton passed away peacefully with his family by his side on June 29th at Lourdes Hospital. He is predeceased by his mother, Lettie McArthur Myers , and his daughter, Patricia Myers. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Irene (Neschleba) Myers, his four children, Marie Doud (Richard), Daniel J. Myers Jr. (Donna), Timothy C. Myers (Kim), Gloria Meade( Mike) , grandchildren, Rich & Scott Doud, Stephen & Thomas Myers , Danella Myers, Timothy, Meaghan, Teddy, Daniel, Molly & Annie Kate Myers, Haley, Stacey and Michael Meade, & 13 great grandchildren. Dan graduated from Binghamton North High School and was a long-time member of St. Paul's Catholic Church and recently a member of St. Vincent's Catholic Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army and proudly served in Europe during World War II as part of the "Greatest Generation". He was also a lifetime member of Legion Post 1645. Dan retired from the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier after 32 years of service. He was a life-time member and officer of the National Association of Letter Carriers and was President of the National Association of Retired Federal Employee's for 12 years. Dan also retired from Dick's Sporting Goods after 11 years as a professional bowling ball driller and fishing reel repairman. He was an avid bowler, skilled horseshoe player and somewhat of a golfer. Most importantly he was the ultimate, die-hard, BOSTON RED SOX fan. The family would like to thank LuAnn, Kelly, Trudy and JoEllen for being wonderful caregivers to our husband and father for the past 6 months. We would also like to thank Lourdes Hospice and the doctors, nurses, aides and staff from ER, Seton 1 and 1 West for providing care and comfort to our father and our family during his final days. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Wednesday at 10 am at Blessed Sacrament/St Vincent DePaul Church Vestal. Burial will be in Slovak Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4-7pm at the Barber Memorial Home, Inc., 428 Main Street Johnson City. Dan started his life as a young child growing up in a children's home on the Southside of Binghamton and it provided him the foundation for his adult life. To honor this, the family would request that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to The Children's Home, 1182 Chenango St., Binghamton, NY. 13901.

When I was a toddler, Uncle Danny enlisted. He came to our house on Castle Creek Road just before leaving to see my mom and me. I remember him tossing me in the air and playing with me. When the next convey went down the road my mom and I were on the porch waving in case Uncle Danny was in it. My mom has kept me up-to-date on you folks over the years. I know he will be missed by all of you. He surely had a wonderful life and family.
