Joan Purdy Obituary

Joan M. Purdy
of Owego
Joan Purdy, 68, went to be with her Lord and was reunited with her husband, Runyon on Tuesday, September 4, 2007. Joan was a loving and devoted mother to Kell and AnnMarie Purdy, Vestal, Seanne and Richard McPherson, Maine, N.Y., and Molly and Corliss Wheaton, Oneida, N.Y. She cherished her 14 grandchildren, Sadie, Aubrey, Jarrett (Ron), Shakeema, Khadeja, Andrew, Trinity and Luke, Michelle, Daniel and Darren, Robert, Johnathon and Benjamin; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Nellie (William) Lawver, Lula (Frank) Stirling, Leona (Leon) Lombardoni; her nieces and nephews, especially her very dear nephew and niece, John and Pat Purdy and their daughter, Kara; and her lifelong friend, Ann and her husband, Adrian Price. Joan was also loved by her many friends and her Union Center United Methodist Church family. Born on January 23, 1939 in Hallstead, Pa., Joan was a daughter of the late Lewis and Frances Warner Twining. She was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Rebecca Wheaton; and her great-nephew, Braden Purdy. She was a graduate of Whitney Point High School, Class of 1957 and a former employee of Chenango Industries and Wal-Mart. Joan's life was a legacy of unconditional love. She and Runk were foster parents to many children over the years. She also opened her heart and home to anyone who was in need of help. Lovingly referred to as the Casserole Queen, Joan kept her cupboards fully stocked with her home canned goods and other necessities "just in case".
A memorial service and celebration of Joan's life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 8, at the Union Center United Methodist Church, with Rev. Brown Naik, Pastor, officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at church. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Hope Cemetery, Newark Valley. Expressions of sympathy in Joan's memory may be directed to the Owego Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 22, Owego, 13827, or the Union Center UMC. The Cooley Family of MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley, is assisting with arrangements.

Dear Seanee and Rich,

We are so sorry to hear of your loss and know for sure that your Mom's passing is heaven's gain. We enjoyed serving with your Mom and Dad at Warren Center Baptist Church. They were always so easy to talk to and great mentors to us in our early days as Christians and we enjoyed seeing them at our family reunions. We love you. Uncle Chet and Aunt Nancy.
