Lawrence Zopp Obituary

Zopp, Lawrence W.

Lawrence (Lark) W. Zopp joined his Dad on January 11, 2017 while recovering from surgery. He was predeceased by his father Larry; grandparents Helen and Bill Bolebruch and Helen and Nick Zopp. He is survived by his mother Joan; sisters Shannon (Mark) Edmondson; Zina (Kevin) Lewis; nieces and nephews Jerod (Haley) Edmondson and their children Caden and Paige, Ryan, Chris, and Morgan Edmondson, Corey and Kelsey Lewis. Many people held a special place in Larry's heart but none more than Billy and Chelsea. Larry's greatest love was the outdoors. He was never happier than when hunting, fishing or 'celebrating'. Many of his fondest memories were of time spent with family and friends. Through his love for the youth of this community he was a frequent sponsor of many athletic teams and events, but his true love was coaching football. Countless young people learned a love of the game from him. He had a warm heart and generous nature and his laugh could be heard where he was found. His sense of humor and devilish smile will remain legendary. Funeral Services will be held on Monday at 9:15am at the Barber Memorial Home, 428 Main St, Johnson City, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00am, at Ss. Cyril and Methodius Church, 148 Clinton St, Binghamton. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, from 4:00pm - 8:00pm, at the Barber Memorial Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Larry Zopp memorial scholarship fund, c/o Shannon Edmondson, 124 Harry L. Drive, Johnson City, NY 13790.

To Zina and Family;

After hearing the sad news, I just wanted to say again my thoughts are with Larry as a student, athlete, and man.

Larry's passing gives me great pause as he always was considered, by me, as one who brought so much to the Johnson City community over the years.

I will always remember when Football games were so close one could hardly breath, Larry was the one would always crack a timely joke and bring focus back to us all!

Larry was part of the intangible glue that made Johnson City always proud as a role model in sports, family, and community.

Rest in peace Larry, you were a great one!

Sincerely with respect to your family,

Coach Jack Bucchioni

Joanie, Shannon, Z and Families,
Many fond memories of good times with Larky! Like his Dad, I will always remember him for his generosity. I was his guest numerous times for the Maple Hill Member Guest and not once, could I force him to take a nickel. I always looked forward to those times with him. His time spent mentoring and coaching the youth of JC can probably, again, be matched only by Dad. I'm not sure if I can ever remember being with Larky when he didn't have a grin on his face; his personality was truly infectious. My thoughts are with you; I miss you ALL!

I have some fond memories of Larry from high school. He was a great person and had a great sense of humor. One day, in Spanish class, he got Marty Zindle back, since Marty always played pranks on others, by putting a tack-sticking up-on his chair as Marty was running late for class-and we all new what Larry was up to--Marty hurried in, sat down without looking-and stood up real quick. We all had a great laugh. Prayers to his family during this sad time-he will be greatly missed.
