Marcia Fair Obituary

Marcia Mary Fair
Pleasanton, Texas
Formerly of Hillcrest and Port Dickinson
1/21/49 - 5/22/10
Marcia Mary Fair died on May 22 at her home in Pleasanton, Texas, after a long battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her father, Russell Fair. She is survived by her husband, Fred VanAuken of Pleasanton, Texas and his children and grandchildren; her mother, Dorothy Fair of Hillcrest; three sisters: Justine Ball (Castro Valley, CA), June Fair and Joe McWhorter (Cheverly, MD), and Linda and Chic Dittmar (Chenango Bridge); as well as several nieces and nephews. Marcia served in the US Air Force for 12 years, rising to the rank of Sgt. 1st Class, before an accident forced her to retire in 1984. Once she had recovered sufficiently from her accident, she began volunteering at the hospital where she had served before her retirement. She volunteered there until she moved to the Binghamton area. She lived in this area from 2004 to 2006. During that time she was a regular at the senior center on Clinton Street and enjoyed taking karate lessons at FMK Karate. She was also active at Community Baptist Church of Port Dickinson, where she sang in the choir and was a member of one of the women's circles.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 27 at 2:30 pm at Community Baptist Church of Port Dickinson. Friends are invited to share in this celebration of her life. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
