Marion Bacon Obituary

(Elva) Marion Bacon
Previously of Endicott
(Elva) Marion Bacon passed away peacefully Tuesday afternoon at the N.Y.S. Veterans Home in Oxford, N.Y. Marion was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Cecial Giles; husband, Charles; son, Richard; sisters, Elvina Williams, Gertrude Rogers; and brother, Eldon Giles. She is survived by sisters, Lois Marrer and Estelle Burgher; brother, Victor (Jeanine) Giles; and brother-in-law, Eugene Rogers; daughter-in-law, Jeanne Bacon; grandchildren, Marylynne (Jeffrey) Jones, Sean (Penny) Bacon; step grandson, Christopher Haight; three great-grandsons, Andrew, David and Jordan; nieces, Sheila Shenkman, Sandra Lovell, Linda LaCoursiere; nephews, David Giles, Dale Giles and Stephen Marrer. Marion was a member of Round Hill Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, Joppa White Shrine and Amaranth, lifetime member and Past Commander of the VFW Woman's Auxiliary 1449, Endicott. Her working life included LPN at Syracuse Veterans Hospital, licensed hairdresser, real estate agent, and licensed reflexologist/masseuse. She enjoyed participating in the Women's Bowling Leagues at Ideal, Midway, and Riverhouse lanes. For many years, Marion was a member of the United Methodist Church of Endicott. Marion was cared for by Homer and Estelle Burgher in their home before entering the NYS Veterans Home. Those who ever met Marion were taken with her cheerfulness, wit and willingness to "help other folks." She will be deeply missed by her family and many friends. Marion's evenings were spent seated at the table in her kitchen reading her Bible and favorite verse, John 3:16. Today, Marion is "Home" with Jesus.
Funeral and interment services will be held on Thursday, 1 p.m., from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, with the Reverend Bob Witherow officiating. Burial will be in Riverhurst Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the memorial home Thursday from 12 noon until service time. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Marion's memory may be made to N.Y.S. Veterans Home, 4211 State Highway 220, Oxford, N.Y. 13830.
